Artist Spotlight # 27

Submitted by mimi 12/08/07 8:24 AM GMT

Here it is caedes community, the last artist to be spotlighted in the year 2007. Nominated by his peers, I present John aka jswgpb aka ‘the lion’.

Fractals as art are severely misunderstood and misinterpreted.John’s spotlight gives each of us an opportunity to browse his gallery and familiarize ourselves with the mysterious world of fractals. John has graciously invited each of us to take time to study one image that draws us in and examine it through your own eyes and let him know what it means to you personally as you pay homage below to his time in the spotlight.

I am totally in shock by this honor, but I’ll try to contain myself. :) WooHoo !! and Yayness !! There that should do it. LOL Real Name - John :) aka The Lion of OZ I live a little south of Chicago with the love of my life Gwen and my second love........my beagle Maggie. I come from a family of 6, 2 brothers and 3 sisters.......I am the 51 yr old baby of the family. ROFL a retired warehouse worker and later a plant manager. I’m really just an ol’ hippie that made it through the 60's and 70's.........I think....... and wouldn’t have missed it for the world. Greatest era of social change in history I believe. The music, trends, and how we view ourselves and our world were all on the table.

I started out in art about 2 or so yrs ago when I got my computer and found Caedes (Great Site) on the internet. I luv to change the background on my monitor so I got into wallpaper of course. :) Well actually not at first because I had no clue how to make images. I heard people talk all the time about ‘flames’ and wondered what the heck that was ? LOL I had psp8 that came with my computer but that was about it. So I went and did some research on Apophysis and found it to be the program that I liked the best to convey my meanings in my art. It’s fun and endless in what you can do. Sometimes it’s mind boggling but I have a general rule of thumb that I go by. Try and make images so they suit the eye and are appealing, .......in placement, and colors. ....Some are dark & foreboding, some are light and carefree. This reflects life's ups and downs to me. Texture is perhaps the most important and I prefer to work with softer flames. I like to give the viewer something to think about also, if you find an image intriguing you may look it over more closely to try and figure out what that "something" is that caught your eye. I don't run scripts so all of my images are made with random batch flames. I like to include in my comments on the image what I perceive the image to be........to kind of coax the viewer to my line of thought........doesn't always work but at least you know where I'm coming from... LOL. I use Apophysis, Photofiltre, and a little psp8 sometimes to create my images.

I've been a member here at Caedes for almost 2 yrs now (in March I think) and quite a few people have had an influence on me from the beginning. All are fine artist and much more talented than I......IMO but if I start to name people I'll leave someone out (Randy,Larry,Jackie,Lauren) and I don't want to do that. LOL I would like to thank YOU my peers for this honor and I'm speechless to quote a friend of mine (The Lion). So I would just like to close by saying thank you, bless you, and I'm truly touched that you enjoy some of the images or so called 'art' that I create well enough to grace your desktops with them. That's all the reward I could ever ask for. Thank you sooo very much for this and you are ALL truly the best folks and a very important part of my extended 'family' Luv Ya and take care.....John

We shoot pictures of what we see and you form the pictures in your mind...boy that's scary. We get to see how your mind works and have come to the conclusion that you are one messed up individual but we really love ya. Keep up the good work bub you are a true artist.

I would hug ya but my hug transistor has malfunctioned and I crush stuff. So I will think about hugging you...you know... a kinda fractal hug.

Hello John, i must congratulate you on your well deserved spotlight ! It is great to finaly see a fractal poster in the spotlight.
Although there are more fractal posters, and there are also some great posters of other rendering programs, i usualy fail to make a reply to their work. If i look at your gallery, it is awesome. But due to the fact that English is not my first language, i will run out of words to write verry soon. With photo's it is more easy to write a comment.
Another reason that i do not reply to renderings and fractals is that i have no idea how much work is involved in creating such an image. I do not have such programs myself, so i am not to know the special details wich will give the beautyfull results as you are posting here. Be asured that i view them each time they apear in the new uploads.
For now thanks for all the hard work, and congrats again !!

Hans,
Holland.

You were one of my first friends on Caedes, and I can recall sending you a PM to ask for suggestions in using Apop., and specifically wanting to know how you generated the light in your flames. You told me that the light came from within the flame, and that I should trust you on that :P I did trust you John, and I thank you for your generosity and continued support. Several reside in my favorites. I will also confess to not always understanding your interpretation of your artwork as to it's meaning ... but I chalk that up to being only half the "nutcase" you are. :) Take no offense my friend in my using that term for I would sorely miss your off the wall sense of humor that permeates the pages here at Caedes. Hi John....

I am so happy to be here on this page with you...on this very special occasion.......to help celebrate in unison...with all of your many friends... who have chosen you to occupy this 'place in the sun'....YAYNESS...I say!!

It is well earned my friend....by presenting to all of us....some of the most beautiful artistry in the 'fractal world'....I have seen on Caedes...I have, as you know....explained often... my lack of understanding...this type of beautiful art work...but nonetheless...have a deep appreciation for it....I have enjoyed your galleries repeatedly and...I have never been disappointed in any 'piece' you have shared with us...but in contrast....was thoroughly...and totally... inspired by each and every presentation...you have placed on the table.... Remarkable work my friend.....Also....you have expressed, and conveyed.. through...your art....many deep and serious thoughts...which have served as wonderful stimulation for further contemplation...for many.... I am sure......Also much humor has been noted throughout Caedes....with your witty and interesting comments....made as well....in fact...hilarious....;o)

The humorous sharing was probably made possible by your co-author...Mr..Lyon...the guy that really runs the show...if the truth be known....Lol! He is now in charge of the forest...but I truly suspect that soon he will be playing a larger role in your fractal galleries....because you see John...he really does have more courage than you do.....Lol!! Teasing you....a bit...

So.... to the 'fractal specialist' on board....I say...I love all of your work...However... there are some that are very special to me...among them....are 'Rainbow Rose'..'Redhot Flower'...and 'Translucent Rose'.....and incidentally...they are quite comfortable in my 'House of Favorites'.....

They are equally... as beautiful as all the flowers combined....;o)

So John....please enjoy your 'your high place of honor'....for as long as possible... You fit the 'chair' to perfection! How does it feel? Pretty exciting....isn't it?

Yo John Lion Dude!

I can't think of a more deserving artist than yourself for this honor. You have been an inspiration for all fractal artists on this site (and others I'm sure), and none probably more than I. Your work I found one day while searching for new wallpapers and ran across Caedes. I imediately book marked the site and your gallery. One day, shortly after that, I saw the word Apophysis on one of your works. Being the a big fan of all CGI's that I am, I researched and found it and proceeded to figure it out. Several weeks later, I posted my first here on Caedes. Since then you have visited just about every single post with encouraging words, and even faved several - which I always consider a great honor because of the respect I have for you art.

John, you are well deserving of this honor. Congratulations.

Well, John, as you well know, I ADORE your fractals. I have a huge file of them saved for posterity, or eternity? I use them SO very much, because no matter what, they give me something to ponder on. I love the colours and wonderful awesome creations that you come up with. OMG ..I just now realized you have 96??!! pages of fractals!!
.OHHHHHHHHHH MY!! I am in shock I think! Well, I will have to take a weekend and get more of yours to save...wowzer. I am soooo happy that a fractal designer got a spot of honor! It happened to a nice lion for sure!!
Purrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrty stuff m' friend! I was going to comment here way before this, but I couldn't find the page!!! It wasn't highlighted when the announcement was made, so I was sad that I couldn't find it. You know how us true blondes are!! -_* Well, but blondes have more fun!! heheh
In any case, I have always been an ardent admirer of your
wonderful creations. As they would say in the NorthEast of the USA....wicked good!!! So congrats to a very nice guy and for sure the fractal king of caedes!! Even tho I am on the ol' West Coast, but YOU know what they say about us West Coast Girls..(wink)....Hugs to ya hun! Verena

I am late with my word, as usual, so I will have to be supper complimentary! But that is impossible, as I have been in that state about your Flames, John, for 18 months or so.
Congratulations! Not only your Art, but your personality deserve it!
From subtle Humour to Flamboyant Frivolity, from thoughtful Reflection to a complicated concept of Space-Time Continuum, from the most delicate Gossamer thread to an unbelievably complex Explosion of colour - it is all there to see in Lion's Gallery. And your Flames are becoming more polished and complete with every new submission, never overworked or "forced" - just smooth, sleek and attractive.
Although the Nature of our World is Fractal, we normally do not see it or think of it, unless something wondrous happens to us - like a rare butterfly suddenly perching on our outstretched arm for a brief moment of joy and admiration. They say that only a true Artist can capture these fleeting moments of beauty....indeed there are many Photographers on Caedes that do just that, and perfectly! You, however, "tweak" it all out of your "inner being", and that makes it more complicated and mysterious.
Well John, your Flames bring me such magical moments.
Thank you John, O Master of Apophysis!

Deja vu! I think I was here before, but someone ate my comment! I hope they don't get indigestion! lol Seriously, John, in my heart I did leave a comment for you that somehow never showed up in this thread, but let me take this moment to say that you are the fractal King in my book and along with your fantastic designs, I get a double treat with your fantastic comments and jokes as well. You are always of good cheer, make great stuff and delight us all. Wouldn't be complete here without you, John. I look forward to your posts and also your funny responses on my images as well. You belong in this spotlight.

You will be led to the knowledge of the internal things which are invisible to you, by the external things which you see before you. . . . Even so then, we can represent to ourselves in thought the Author of all that is, by contemplating and admiring the (visible) things which He has made, and ever brings into being. - Hermes

Hello John,
It looks like I haven't been keeping up on what's going on lately. I saw your handle as "Artist in the Spotlight # 27". As a photographer I don't keep as close to the artists that do Fractal work, but in going through your Gallery of images I found that at least one of yours is in my "Favorites Gallery' and taught me that I need to pay closer attention. I must honestly say that I was amazed at the artistry and beauty of your images.
Congratulation on being picked for this honor it is well deserved and overdue.

Well this certainly took me long enough to do!..lol..I keep forgeting all the things and places there are here at Caedes. Well John, you know how I feel about you and your art pieces. You're one of my dearest friends, and without you I wouldn't be getting as good as I'm getting with my own art work. You're truly a sweetheart and I love you dearly, my friend. Congrats and you certainly deserve this honor!

Hello John,

What an accomplishment - so glad to see you in spotlight. I believe it is not that easy when you specialise in fractals... I think most of Caedes people are more focused on photos. That is why I am so happy for your success. I have to admit your gallery is very impressive and your works show your immense creativity and imagination. Keep up all the splendid work John. Once more congratulations.
