Artist Spotlight # 43.

Submitted by mimi 09/04/09 6:20 AM GMT

Our next artist to shine in the spotlight has given us a birds eye view of the nesting and raising of Egrets! He is know by a variety of letters and numbers here on the site. I present to you 100k_xle better known as EJ to all of us!
Please take a few minutes and stroll through his feathered gallery and sprinkle it with comments or find your favorite image and let EJ know which one you like the most!

Let me introduce myself. I am Ed Voisin (better known on Caedes as 100k_xle) and I have been married to the love of my life, Jenny, for 36 years and counting. I was the last child of five, and I grew up in a small fishing community. My parents operated a small marina on the weekends where I did my first fishing guide service at the age of seven. I graduated high school in 1969; took distributive education my junior and senior years, learning the trade of butcher/meat cutter. I entered the U.S. Army two months after graduation, spending 14 months in an Infantry Division in Vietnam. Vietnam is where I first took an interest in photography. I purchased a 35mm camera at a PX for $40. I also learned darkroom techniques and how to develop my own images, many of which were black and white. Once I returned stateside I got away from photography because I could not afford the film and developing supplies.

After returning from the service I took a job with a national grocery store chain as a butcher, but was bored with the work after a couple of years. Over the years I tried numerous lines of work. I drove for UPS for three years. Later I learned the trade of welding and built marsh buggies from the ground up. I was also a professional tankerman and boat captain for a number of years. I tried my hand in sales at a lumber yard and brokerage firm. None of these jobs ever held my interest for very long, until I got the opportunity to work for the State of Louisiana, Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, as a seismic inspector. I first learned of this job opportunity through my wife, who is also employed with the same department and has been with them for 38 years. I have held this job for the last fifteen years and hope to be here another fifteen, if possible. In my position, I get to travel the entire state while helping to protect our natural resources. This job has also given me the opportunity to shoot many of the images that are in my Gallery.

In 2006 I was given a 2 megapixel camera to help me in my work. In the less expensive world of digital photography, I soon fell in love with shooting photos again. I purchased a 7 megapixel Sony point and shoot. After a year, I did some research on DSLR’s and decided to purchase the camera I now have. It is a Nikon D300. The two lenses I shoot with are a Nikkor 18-200 mm VR and a 70-300 mm VR.

My other hobbies are fishing, fishing lure designing and building, and painting.

I have been inspired by many artists on this site to try new techniques, such as manipulations, Orton’s, and HDR’s. I am always willing to learn and share anything new.

I first discovered the site in December 2006 while searching for wallpapers. It soon became my favorite site and I joined the Cadre in January 2007. Since that time, I have made so many wonderful friends worldwide. I feel their comments, critiques, and insight have helped me become a better photographer.

I was asked to pick my favorite image from my gallery; I would have to say it is Spanish Moss. The image is of a Barred Owl with its legs crossed in what seemed to be a mystical surrounding at high noon on a hot summer’s day. I would be very interested in knowing which of my images is YOUR favorite.

It is most Humbling to be recognized by ones peers. Thanks to all my friends who have supported me in the past few years. Your comments and friendship are deeply appreciated. Thanks, also, to those who nominated me for this Honor.

Have a Great Day!

EJ

Hello EJ
Thanks for your wonderful egrets series. They have no more secrets for us ;-)
One of my favorite is certainly Proud as a Peacock ?, probably because of the dark background.
Congratulations!

I bow to you EJ. You surely deserve this honor. Your photography is tied with the best on this site. I agree about being selected by your peers is quite humbling.

I could never come up with the right nickname for you and I now know why. You have wore so many hats that one name other then your given one will not work. That won't keep me from trying however. One I will not call you per your request is: "Late for the dinner table." lol

It is difficult to choose one from you gallery and call it my favorite but I sure am partial to this. I think it is the one that drew me to your gallery. I have found you are much like this tree. Tall, straight and willing to help shelter all who need it. Trees to me are the perfect example of integrity and your branches are full with integrity.

Congratulations good friend.

I am fortunate to have gotten to know you on a more personal level. Truly.

And our 'collabs' in the past have been most enjoyable time spent on my end in the editing chair. My creative pulse always runs a little higher when you tell me you got 'something' for me to take a look at. :o)

Thank you for contributions to our beloved site. And thank you for having had me in your thoughts from time to time. Alllll are greatly appreciated.
