New Collaboration system

Submitted by caedes 10/06/13 11:06 AM GMT

I've written a new site feature that will allow us to easily ask for member feedback in order to (automatically) make decisions. This is very similar to the way the voting for the contests work, but this will allow us to vote on many other aspects of the site. The first test is for new images. When an image is uploaded, a number of "Image Approval" jobs will be sent to reputable members. If a certain number of the members agree that the new image is in compliance with the CoC, then it will automatically be upgraded to "active" status (visible in all galleries). A separate image approval job will be sent to the Senate members, but this will only be to cross-check the accuracy of the member decision. If you get one of these "Image Approval" jobs, you don't have to vote if you don't want to. The job will automatically delete after one hour or after enough other members vote.

This concept sounds interesting to me and would perhaps speed approvals for images to be available for viewing.

I agree it does sound interesting, and time will tell how it all works out.

Excellent! This idea should really have been implemented long ago IMO. Hope it leads to some renewed activity around the place.

Perhaps a small glitch - one of those I was asked to approve is my own image :)

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

The system must think you are very trustworthy.

Well... if the system knew Lyn like we know Lyn, there would be no question! 8D

I think it's a good idea to involve the membership in this. I'm usually conflicted, though, when I see an image that is purported to be a straight-forward photograph but inspection reveals it to be a manip. Would that affect approval?

Nik, you should only reject images that violate the coc (eg rips, images that are obviously offensive). We don't get many offensive images uploaded here but if you are unsure just leave it in the queue.

The approval process is not intented as a check on the quality of the image.

Yeah, I know, Sam, but I'm notoriously picky.

BTW, I, too am finding my own photos sent to me for approval, two so far. Of course I will not respond to them, letting the time run out on them instead.
