Has anyone, Caedes and the Moderators, ever considered starting a Minimalism Gallery ? I just ask because I feel a lot of artists like this kind of spare looking Art. I happen to be one of them actually. It could include both abstracts and photography, or it could possibly be broken up into 2 sub-catagorys, one each in Abstract and Photography.
What does everyone think ? If we had such a gallery, would anyone consider making Art to put into it ?
Yes I think that would be a nice gallery indeed and I would certainly do work for it but for a new gallery to be created there must be at least two dozen suitable pieces already in the permanent collection under different categories.

Besides the fact that the answer is probably " Because that's the way the site is set up, Lauren you dolt" ... why do the necessary images have to already be part of the permanent galleries ? So, if a new catagory was set up, it would already have images to cull from ?
Indeed. Typically, galleries are created when a particular subject matter starts accruing a lot of content within another category - such as windmills within architecture, mushrooms within plants etc that then warrants a section all of its very own. It may already be the case that there are enough images already for your suggestion. the best way to move it forward would be to trawl through, and post lists of links to the images you think qualify here to bring it to Piner or Caedes attention.
Hmmm , okay, thanks Phil. I'll start looking. Keeping in mind I'm terrible at linking ... just ask poor beleagured Keith, he's been trying for months to help me. ;o)
Sounds like a plan to me ... I hadn't thought of Poser, but why not ? Here's another one I thought .... kinda spare with clean lines, what do you think ?
hmm - id be tempted to leave Foncee in order to keep the competition galleries complete - but I would certainly do something in that style for a minimalistic gallery. DJ's excellent Bryce workings would be an ideal candidate though.....

ouch phil. you see it as a shameless plug (ok maybe) or me simpy seeking an outlet for the proper audience...i'm on the fence as to whether some of my work is actually unpopular, or simply not quite the 'norm' of what the caedes populace is used to being spoon-fed

shameless plugs are all good :-) I think a lot of your recent stuff would be ideal as minimalist studies and you're probably not too far off the mark with the spoon fed analogy.
awwww… you guys were havin all that fun while I was busy working! even though nobody invited me to come play… I'll submit the following out of my favorites gallery:

Personally I prefer the way photographs and CGI are currently kept seperate. If this were ever followed through I think we should have two galleries, "Computer-> Minimalist" and "Photography-> Minimalist" (or minimalism, whatever).

Oh I get it...i think. Like, the Glass Ball one in my archived gallery? Is that considered minimalism? (Just wondering...not that it would go into the gallery IF there will be one)
Artists aren't notified, all we would be doing is recategorizing. PS I realize now that we would probably have to add "Abstract -> Minimalism" to that list too... I'm not sure how it would work for fractals as they are currently under "Abstract -> Fractal" and you can't currently have a third tier (ie you can't have "Abstract -> Fractal -> Minimalism") The only thing I could think of is to make a new base gallery fro fractals and then have "Fractals -> Minimalism" as an offshoot of that, although I think it would be very difficult to draw any distinct line between what is a normal fractal and what is a minimalist fractal. I'd probably prefer to see it restricted to 3D computer images and photographs.
As I said, currently you can't have three tiers of galleries on the site, two is the most you can have. In order to have three tiers of galleries some reprogramming would be required.
I guess you would have to introduce the defined galleries as and when sufficient images were available. I wouldn’t foresee a problem with a single gallery but it would have to be quite selective as to what was promoted to it in order to keep a balance and level of quality that could definitively be categorised as minimalist.
THe problem I have with placing everything (CGI, fractals, photos etc) into a single minimalist gallery is that it would actually make it more difficult for people to find what they are looking for, when it should be the other way around. Having the galleries split into the distinct categories that we have now makes it much more likely that people will be able to find what they are looking for.

I would Noah, but anything you upload now won't count. As Phil said, these images have to already be a part of an existing perm gallery.
And they need at least 24 images before they'll even think about it. So right now I'm going through the galleries & trying to cull images I think could work in a Minimalism Gallery.
Lol, ok...but um, the image that just finsihed rendering (the one i was talking about) didnt turn out too good. :( Anyways, i'll post it...to be archived! woot!
So far, we have 25 listed images, not using Liquid Steel which I personally liked but Phil thought not, so I bow to his greater experience.
I could continue strolling through the galleries if you'd prefer. But ... what do you all say ?

I'm sure that I like the idea of a Minimalism Contest, it would really make everyone think long & hard about what they're posting if we all have to keep to a certain size requirement.
But ... what about a Minimalism Gallery ? I think we've managed to come up with the required number of images from the perms to support it.
