In case anyone is interested.. some coffee time reading:
"Rave On Buddy Holly is a compilation album by various artists released on June 28, 2011, through Fantasy Records/Concord Music Group and Hear Music. A tribute album to musician Buddy Holly, who died in a plane crash in 1959 at age 22, the title refers to the song "Rave On", one of his biggest hits. Contributing artists included Paul McCartney, who owned Holly's publishing catalog at the time of the album's release, and Graham Nash, a former member of The Hollies, who were named in commemoration of Holly.
Critical reception of the compilation album was positive overall; many reviewers appreciated the album in its entirety but criticized select performances. Rave On Buddy Holly reached a peak position of number 15 on the Billboard 200 and also charted on the Top Canadian Albums, Top Digital Albums and Top Rock Albums charts. "Dearest", performed by The Black Keys, received a nomination for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance at the 54th Grammy Awards (2012)."
Amazing violinist, Les, and HERE are the haunting strains of the solo violinist, Samvel Yervniyan, in the composition Until The Last Moment by Yanni and Company.
I keep finding CDs of the All-American Rejects in local charity shops. The most recent was Move Along. I like the song Move Along almost as much as Swing Swing (from an earlier CD).
I hadn't heard of this band before buying... pure randomness.
Halfway through through the first video the drummer pulls off his cap... what a character! The Boris Johnson of ?heavy rock / punk rock?
P.S. The 'Rave On' Buddy Holly cover you posted... nice!
Was wondering why it reminded me of the Danish entry to Eurovision 2018 (Higher Ground by Rasmussen). Possibly because they both have a Scottish sound?
Talk about random! I play musical Russian Roulette; buy charity shop CDs without knowing what they're like. A week ago I got The Magic Numbers (I thought) then discovered Scouting for Girls inside the case.
Answering the question above about Johnny and Mary... I like Robert Palmer, and both versions are worth listening to. The second is slower but more haunting.
^ This has it's roots in the title song to the show; "The Leftovers".
I like the pickin' n fiddlin'.
Next up.. the ethereal vocals of and as noted in a Wikipedia article about the song:
"It distinguishes itself from the rest of the Twins' catalogue in two major areas: The sound is much more pop-oriented and less ambient than previous works, and vocalist Elizabeth Fraser's lyrics are more intelligible than usual."
