New Gallery - Reworked

What are your opinions about a rework gallery? Artists that want help with an image can say so in the description and anyone who is willing to help the artist can do a rework without having to go and get permission from the artist. The person doing the rework can describe what they have done to change the image so as to help others achieve good editing practices. I feel it does not really fall into a tutorial category. There are plenty of reworks on Caedes already to warrant such a gallery. I think it would vastly improve the exposure to learning new techniques. What are your thoughts?

I think it's a great idea Darryl, but I have a feeling a lot of other stuff would end up in that gallery as well because people who see it as a gallery choice when submitting may put any old manipulation in there. Seems like just a slight organization concern but a very good idea. I'd like to see something like that, I love learning new techniques.

I think that the image mods would have decide like they do with all other galeries. I am strictly talking of photography based adjustments such as cropping, levels and color adjustments to improve and bring out different veiws of the artists! There could possibly be another gallery for non-photography based images for those who do that type of art!

I personally think that is a great idea Darryl - not only with photography but with the other styles as well - particularly photo manips (some processes can be kinda tricky and learning a different way to get the effect could certainly help).

It should be easy enough to start one up, people can just put a note like "This is intended for the 'Rework' gallery". Then if there are enough of them in the new imges gallery, we would have to create a rework gallery to put them in...

One question, would both the original and the reworked image go in the Rework gallery? Or just the rework itself? Or would you have two subgallerys for each?

So the rework gallery would receive images that the author would like to have improved and images imoproved by a second party with the author's permission.

sam I think just the reworked one should go in the gallery, with a link to the original image on the comments page.
Also, they could just put "(RW)" at the end of the title so it would be obvious that it is modified from the original post.

ive already had a couple of my images reworked by another artist on here. For someone who is new I find it helpfull in my learning proccess where someone who is more experianced may take offence.Unless you get permission and blessings from the artist
it could be grounds for war I think it is a wonderfull idea just make sure its cool with whoever the origianl artist is.
just a thought.

There definately need to be some rules to follow! Just another thought but instead of posting a seperate image maybe they could be combined to one veiw. This way we are not creating a new desktop image but instead a lesson to learn from. If not one view then maybe a size restriction so as not to create a desktop from it. You could still post the original for everyone to enjoy it as a desktop;-) The double image would work well because the images would be side to side and there would be no linking work for those that don't have that skill. It would also be a little less taxing on the server;-) I think also that there must be an explanation of changes made to the image whether simple or complex. And a comment should be made to the original that you have done a rework so the artist knows that someone has done the rework.

This new gallery would also give the photographers a chance to post non-wallpaper sized images and allow critique not as wallpaper :-)

Mayne- they should post it the same size as the original, so people can see the difference and choice which, if not both images to download for their desktop.

A good example of this are these two images listed below, that many of you are familiar with. Each make a good desktop picture for different reasons, though they are virtually the same image.

Original Image

Reworked Image

I also think that the original artist has to approve the image and should post it themselves, of course giving credit to the person that modified it. That way there is no question about approval, and there shouldn't be many, if any, posts in the discussion board that start off with "Someone posted a modified image of mine without my permission!"

Because some of the rework would involve cropping to non desktop dimensions I think it would be best to keep it with two images on one page so you can see the difference. The original would still be there along with the reworked version. Also, if the artist puts Rework in the title or description with brackets, it should be free game to do photographic adjustments...no question of approval there. If anyone is not approving full adjustment they could stipulate their terms in the description. I guess my main idea was to have more than just wallpaper images...it would be nice to see everything and expand our horizons a bit. I couldn't get those links to work...may be the space in caede s? Whatcha think is there another way?

I dont think enough images would go in there but if so then thats a good idea because one person asked me if they could show me what they were talking about on one of my images and have yet to see it. I don't even know if I will see (and i dont even remember who it was; if any thinks it is them then please tell me).

Darryl: It seems that your idea is pleasing to everybody.

I propose to create the 'Rework' gallery now. Members can upload a picture to be reworked. For example, I upload a picture called 'A farm'. I describe what I would like to see improven. Darryl send me a PM to say he's interested by the job; he works the picture and propose 'A farm RW1' in the 'Rework' gallery. A dialogue can take place between the sender and the proofreader. At the end, the sender downloads the reworked picture and upload it on caedes.net while signalling that this picture has been achieved with the help of Darryl. The old images in the 'Rework' gallery can then be deleted.

If you are Ok, I'll upload the first picture called 'A farm' in the new gallery... So it will be created... :-)

I uploaded my rework of Darryl's image under my username in the rework gallery. His image is living on under his username so people will be able to compare in the future (and of course because his image is just so darn beautiful to begin with). I think this seems like the most logical solution for using this gallery (only place the rework in the rework gallery and include a link in the rework description to get to the original image). Any one else share this opinion or have a different one?

BTW guys, if you are reworking an image, try to remember to download it in the largest size available, and not your own res as you normally would! It's pretty annoying when you spend 20 minutes fixing an image, only to realize it's too small for everyone else!

Good point Sam. I would have downloaded this one at 1600 if there had been a 1600 of the original available. I just had to work with the largest one that Darryl had, but it is definitely important to remember that you have to manually get a larger image size than the automatic default (or else my rework would have had to be re-uploaded at 1024 since that is sadly all my computer can handle). Thanks for bringing that up Sam~

I noticed that Darryl's original image (Roam Free) got moved to the Rework gallery. In my opinion, since it is not a rework (just an image that has had a rework of it posted), it should be able to stay in its original gallery since the rework contains a direct link to it anyway. I am bringing this up because I feel like it may create a slight reluctance among authors to approve their images to be reworked if they feel they will be obligated to uproot their original image to place it in the rework gallery.

If an original image is uploaded for the specific purpose of finding someone who will do a rework of it then I don't see anything wrong with the original author posting it in the rework gallery. But really any image already on Caedes.net could be fair game for a rework if the author approves it and it doesn't seem like that author should then be obligated to have their original image placed into the rework gallery. For instance, I just placed one of my older reworks (of a B1aze photo) into the rework gallery. He had no intention of having his photo reworked when he uploaded it, it was just a project that interested me. Therefore it doesn't seem appropriate that his image be moved just because a rework of it exists. Sorry to be so long-winded about such a simple point. Does anyone agree or disagree with this?

Agree with you, Josh. All authors of reworked pictures must feel free to place their images where they want.
But a 'Rework' gallery is also a good idea for those which want to show the editing.
