Hi,

Is there a fractal program for Macintosh computers? I've heard of Genuine Fractals Pro but it looks like a Photoshop plug-in and I don't know Photoshop.

Genuine Fractals Print Pro is a PHOTO ENLARGEMENT plugin .. it has nothing to do with creating fractals .. it just uses a fractal algorithm to extrapolate the image data

you could check out .. Context Free .. DL link on the left (MAC + WIN)

although it may not be what you're looking for .. you'll have to mess with the formulas provided by others, or learn to write your own .. some of them "randomize" their output, creating a different image each time you click render

Xaos is a Mac fractal generator I use (LINK). Fractality is another one (LINK). Fractal Domains (LINK). Aros Fractals is another (LINK). Artmatic ( LINK). EasyFractal (LINK). There are more, but this should get you started.

Wow, thanks for all of those. I've done searches before and found a couple but sometimes just for Classic and I'm on Intel. The ones you provided look great.

Well I love my Mac and I have a application called Parallels that turns my Mac into a PC so I could use a PC based program if I wanted to. Ultra Fractals 4 looks really good. What do you use?

I use Apophysis, mainly, from a fractal point of view

I have Ultra fractal 3 point something .. but have never been able to do anything 'unique' with it .. and all of the UF'ers ignore my thinly veiled hints to write tutorials

Any ideas for free/open-source fractal programmes for Mac OS X? I find a lot of the options cost money and/or only run under Classic, which I don't have.

There are some programmes I've found which work well. Xaos is very nice, but cannot save large enough images. There are various programmes in Java which work on any platform and one or two of these are becoming very nice, too. xfractint is wonderfully powerful if you don't mind using XWindows - but it doesn't have the advantages of many of the modern programmes. It is still what I tend to use, though.

a company called Gandreas creates some shareware software for fractals and fractal flames in Universal Binary for Mac. the software is called Quadrium2 for regular fractals and another app called Quadrium Flame for fractal flames. oddly. dunno if they are any good but came across them whilst trawling the apple site today.
