What Photoshops can you create jewels on? and are they free? What about Photofiltre??

I've never used photofiltre .. nor have I used "the GIMP" .. but, the GIMP is the closest thing to photoshop out there .. my guess would be, they've tried to be a "poor man's photoshop" from the outset .. due to the cost of photoshop

you can get photoshop for @ $300 via a student discount

in case you haven't poked around the tutorials gallery .. there are a number of excellent guides in there ..

Creating a Photoshop Jewel

that will give you an idea .. and you can try to cross-pollinate the steps to GIMP

you can also google for GIMP goodies

You could also try downloading Blender or Bryce...these are 3D programs, unlike photoshop (and like programs).

Blender is more difficult to use; Bryce is easier. You'll have to use booleans in Bryce to create a gem.
