On my latest pictures I have been putting 'alyssa ann' in one of the corners. Not sure why I did (since it didn't stop anyone from ripping it anyway) but I've been wondering does it ruin the picture? Check out a few of my last ones and let me know, should 'alyssa ann' stay, or should it go?
there's two avenues of thought on signing one's work .. subtle + BOLD ..
I feel the need to sign mine, but prefer to keep it as unobtrusive as possible .. fading it in .. complimentary colors .. making it as small as possible in an effort to not 'step' on somebody else's enjoyment of the image, yet legible at the expected display dimensions
and others aim for a more definite, in-your-face, logo'ized style
both are acceptable .. but neither will prevent your work from being ripped
one helpful hint .. the DPI of your image at the time of post-processing (300 vs 72) can help smaller text be smooth, clean, and readable .. versus blocky, chunky, and crude
DPI = dots per inch. Can be changed in the image size seetings (at least in photoshop).
Personally I think logos are a necessity if you are in any way concerned about theft of your images. My advice would be to try to ensure that the text suits the image; try to make it sympathetic to the colors/style etc of the image rather than using a standard logo on all you images. It can even improve the image in some cases, if you do it well.
I put my website address on all my images. As you pointed out, it doesn't stop people from ripping them but at least that way it serves as advertising, so I actually don't mind if they do get posted elsewhere because anyone who sees it will know who made it and I might get some increases in hits to my site. If you don't have your own website maybe you could put "deep_saphire.caedes.net" instead.
if your image has 300 dot-per-inch .. there is more dots to make a clean, smooth curve of your text .. the same rule of logic applies to any curve
for when you resize an image, giving photoshop's (or similar programs) resizing algorithm more data to crunch will result in a better image .. a crunchier image .. crisper .. moist .. ziploc in the freshness
eh, sorry .. I got stuck in a metaphor and couldn't get out
I agree with Keifer, subtle sigs are better than bold ones. If you're going to sign, you don't want it to detract.
I personally don't care if people use my images in a fair use manner, so long as they do not take credit for them. I have my pics on Deviant Art as well as this site.
