With overwhelming support for the establishment of a “Hall of Fame” gallery on Caedes.net, the following plan has been formulated with the consensus of 15 members through a survey:
The Hall of Fame will induct 24 images each year (87% agreement) and will begin in this month of July with 12 starter images. 2 images will be inducted on a monthly basis beginning this July.
Members of the Caedes Cadre will form the core of the Hall of Fame committee, and have the following rights: their images are eligible for induction, they are able to both nominate and second images to be inducted, and they are present on the voting committee. Non-Cadre members will have all of those rights save the ability to second nominations.
The committee will consist of 21 members (67% agreement) who will serve 3-month terms (slim majority agreement). The motion to include all image moderators in the committee fails (8-7 disagreement), but the members will be selected by Caedes and the moderators, and may include moderators, as they are also members.
The requirements for inducted images include: must be at least 9 months old (87% agreement), must have at least 500 downloads (67% agreement). The motion to institute a minimum c-index value fails. It is the goal of the committee to select images of the highest quality that demonstrate originality, technical achievement, and master artisanship. May include images that were forerunners of a style or popularized a technique. The committee will keep in mind at all times the variety of work on Caedes.net and attempt to reflect that variety.
If this plan were put into action, the following logistics would need be worked out:
1.Appointment of the committee members.
2.Nominations for first round of 12 images.
3.Committee voting
Beyond those issues, it's fairly straight forward. It would go like this:
Any member is allowed to make a nomination, most easily posted in a thread. Cadre members may then second nominations. A period of a week or so may be given over to this process.
The committee would then first throw out any images not meeting the requirements, and then discuss which 12 images should make the final cut. The first committee should be allowed to decide how best to handle this process, and how best to take a vote. My suggestion is that each member rank the final list of candidates, and the top 12 from there move on. This process could be repeated each month, only taking the top 2. Ties would be broken by committee discussion.
This idea get my whole hearted support.. i think it's a very well planed project .. and im very sorry i was taking a break from the site when the big planning event was going on!...please lets see this happen.. and happen soon! :D
I’m very pleased to see the Hall of Fame coming together so well. I take my hat of to you Bob. Was any decision made about rejected images being eligible for nomination a second time?
Trisbert-- I think we figure there's no reason for an image to not be nominated again and again, although it has to find a second each time, and there are only so many members who can second the nomination. I don't think anyone will keep nominating/seconding an image if it doesn't get put into the Hall of Fame unless they have a reason.
I think the age of the image should be reduced, or at least discussed reduced (the youngest age in the forum was 9 months and it was unanimous, maybe people want even younger like me)
Why would you like to see the minimum age reduced? Out of curiosity. We already have many eligible images that are more than a year old; 9 months makes the pool even larger. The age requirement is both to keep the number eligible down, as well as to give the image time to sink into people's minds, to compare it to other images, to other artists, who mull over it, etc.etc. I know there are many talented artists who don't have a 9 month old image yet, but they will.
I think 6 months would be best, this would start images right b4 this year, we have all seen images that could easily be hall of fame images that are even younger than 6 months old, I dont think 6 months is stretching it too much.
I'm throwing my two cents in because this hasn't been covered..... the image should be available to download at 1600x1200 as a requirement for nomination.
Samatar, we mentioned briefly in the other thread, and I thought it made sense, that anyone who wants to stay on the committee may do so. I imagine a lot of people staying on it.
All I have to say is be fair and careful...
A) this is an art site and artists especially are very defensive of their work and easily offended
B) there will be a strong finger pointing at the "regulars" work based on the increased amounts of downloads and will to look at their images
That being said I'm all for the idea...I've always thought there should be a place for the upper crust images...I have no doubts that this site can pull it off :)
Congratulations, Bob! Looks like your very good idea has sturdy wings and is really going to fly and that all your hard work is going to be of great benefit to the site. Thanks!!! :).
Thank you, mary, but I don't really want to claim this idea as my own! a ton of people have helped with refining it and just general support, and that's what's most important.
Yes, the idea looks as though it is taking shape nicely. The votes seem to have gone pretty much as I would like.
I think that the size requirement shouldn't matter as such - I think it will work itself out, I really can't see any 640x480 images making the grade. What are we going to do about posting nominations?

Glad to see this idea coming to fruition. I think it is a great way to give recognition to those images that have that "extra special something." I know it is only 2 days into August, but I noticed that in your original post, Bob, that these nominations would begin in July. Did I miss it, or has it yet to come about?
It's yet to come about; I meant we could start as soon as July if it got underway. We've posted it on the development site as a feature we'd like to be implemented, so hopefully it will come to be!
