I have been posting on the sight for a little over a year and a half now and have become very curious of what allot of the people on the sight look like. I talk to you all so much and we make so many comments on each other’s profiles. I think it would be nice to humanize the sight a little more. Lets just say a face to face would be nice once in awhile.
I don’t know about the rest of you but I think it would be interesting to know who makes all the great images.

Art is the perception of the creator. Meaning is the perception of the viewer. acceptance is the perception of society.

I haven't been posting nearly as long as you, but I understand what you mean. I believe that Leo has similar feelings as well. Maybe this has become a problem because many want to remain anonymous, and others would prefer not to have someone's face on their desktop. Maybe using a self portrait as a personal icon is a good idea (sorry Lucy!). We can ask caedes if live video feed is out of the question...

I dont like most of the personal photos. But I enjoy them alot when they are done well. I like the image by cc_beowulf of himself, I like most of the portraits by ppigeon, and the recent one by photoimagery. I recently also uploaded a picture/portrait of gabi. Portraits are an important part of photography and an art in themselves. I encourage personal photos when they are done in an artistic manner.

I like the idea of posting personal photos. I am always curious as to what people look like.

Clayton i have to agree, very nice to see these sort of images...In my opinion i always saw the Personal/Self gallery as a place for people to get a glimpse of the authors (infact, wasn't that why it got set up in the first place???).. but i wouldn't consider all the images there as desktops and so it would be wrong to compare and rate them all like that! I certainly never intended people to use the image of me as a desktop, although i wont stop the demented few who want my hairy face beaming up at them!

I think thats what differentiates between the 'Personal/Self' gallery and the 'Photography/People' gallery, so i'd encourage personal photos, but make sure people place them in the right gallery, if all that is intended is to show us the face behind a member's name then it needn't be done in an artistic manner, as long as its going to the 'Personal/Self' gallery. On the other hand, like Anthony mentioned.. the power of the Portrait in Photography, which would include Self-Portraits, should certainly be respected and encouraged in an artistic manner, and i hope to see more such works uploaded to the 'Photography/People' gallery.

Sorry Grim but you ask too much. I draw the line at having to take a photo which makes me look good...

What was once this post and suppose to be for a giggle has been removed by me due to it being taken too seriously.

Then there are people like me who won't lie, but won't advertise poor looks...

I'll get one posted eventually. I was looking to be more involved again and upload some more wallpapers before I did, but I haven't been too quick in doing that either. :)

<-- and technically, that is me over there in the icon.

Xentrik,
It is easy, just hold the camera backwards and push the shutter button. LOL! ;c)

The work of art may have a moral effect, but to demand moral purpose from an artist is to make him ruin his work. (Johann Wolfgang von Goethe - 1832)

I have no problem with that but if you value someone's art and their imput, I personally don't care if they are attractive or not. I guess I am not a curious person though.
