How important is the naming or titling of your post?? That fractal that gave you goose-bumps or that image that left chills running down your spine!! Does it have the same impact with or without the title?? Does the title exude a presence to make the image even more so than maybe what its worth?? The piece is nice, but, the title kinda makes you wonder?
I was curious as to the naming of your piece, uhh, work of art I mean .yeah, thats it work of art!! How important is the title to your work?? Maybe a little, maybe a lot, maybe just a sequence of the same and ya really dont care about a title / name??
I know in the VB (voting booth), we see no titles to the work(s) were voting for would you like to see titles?? Would that influence your vote on a mark of higher or lower?? Why??
How do you come up with names / titles for your postings?? Stab in the dark, some thought or you go over the edge tryin to give it just that right feel to compliment the piece?? Is the title itself a work of art (if you put lotsa thought into it, or, just a title)??
Please, even if you don't visit my gallery, check out my "Faves".I've left them intact since day "1", and would like it if every image there got the attention they deserved.
The title shouldnt make any difference to the value of an image. But it does and it can effect the score too. Why? Because people will leave a comment about the title when they would otherwise have moved on without leaving the comment. On the other hand I dont think any image gets marked down for an unimaginative title like um Red Umbrella #43
How do I find a title dunno really, divine intervention perhaps. Sometimes I just leave the image open in Irfanview until a title pops into my head.
I "ode" Randy some good old fashioned chops-busting.
To answer seriously, yes, a title can make a big difference, but it's not the end-all of an image for me. Would it affect how I vote? Maybe, but on a minor scale, if I was looking for some reason not to think someone put up, as Robert said, "Red Umbrella #43"
*runs off to go re-name my red umbrella image* ;-)
As for how I determine the title? It depends on how serious I take the image. Do I choose a dramatic title, a factual one, or a silly one? Sometimes, I just say them out loud until I say one that "fits".

I believe the reason titles are not shown in the booth is that, in some rare cases, it might give away (or at least hint at) the creator of the image.
Personally I like an image with a really good title, but I think I would still judge the image purely on it's own merits and the title wouldn't effect me. Depends on whether you made a decision to do it that way though I guess.
Granted you can't see the titles in the booth but not everything around here revolves around the booth kiddies. And I doubt it would influence my vote in there anyway.
But as for my titles, yeah I do try & work at them. Sometimes I get them from poems * Cloud Mist Tea*, .... some things in my life .. * Poodle Dreams * ( I have a Standard Poodle). I like mythology & so I try there for titles & sometimes I let my mind wander.
* Soft Falls The Rain* reminded me of streetlights reflecting off a wet street at night & sometimes I use a title generator when I'm really stuck.. * Twilight Dancer*. Which was actually a mixture of a couple of titles because the titles they give are so damn weird ! I like Shakespeare & have used both a title & an expression from one of his tragedies. And one of my favorite all time movies too. :D
Randy you'd love it !
Anyway, yeah a good title & description/story enhance an image as far as I'm concerned. Especially a CG image. To me, a good title & description are like a frame for the image, you know ? I guess I'm explaining it badly & I apologize but yeah, it's important.
Well I don't think the title should be shown in the VB, it gives the voter their own interpretation of that particular image..
I do think however that Titles are important for an image, not only is it part of the artists creativity, but its a way for the artitst to communicate with the viewer on what their interpretation is... (did that make sense? i'm kinda brain dead at the moment)
I have a notebook full of titles I have not created the underlying image for .. but, that's how I roll .. my mind continually jumps from one perverse thought to the next, and occasionally an image title drops to the ground, like that long-sought-after Armor of the PixelGod +3 when you bust open that barrel
Thanks for the thoughts guys 'n' gals!! I had nothing else to do and the question popped in me little head the other day...just wanted to see what others thought!! I sure wasn't sayin' the titles should be or should not be shown in the VB...was just an observation.
