I don't know about the other members of the site, but I have a hard time getting enough votes. For instance, I have had one picture up over a week and I still have zero votes on it. This is kind of frustrating, because it needs 5 votes to make the c-index a realistic one. Getting more votes from people would not only decide if the image deserves to get knocked off (because it will if nobody does anything), but also helps me know what people like for future uploads. I know voting has been discussed more times than anyone could count if they had the time to read through all the forums, but they are all buried. Voting takes little more time than looking at an image, so i think increasing the amount one votes isn't that much to ask. Anyone agree?
I'm am in the process of adding a gallery that lists "Lonely" images (one's which haven't received enough attention. I think this would ammeliorate your problem quite nicely since your image would probably appear near the top of the list.
I absolutely agree about the lack of votes. I think people often forget to vote on an image after they have viewed it or commented on it, which is too bad. I know it's been discussed before and somewhat dismissed but I think that a voting requirement is merits consideration.
I for one applaud yet another great idea for those images that certainly didn't seem to get their chances for whatever reasons. I am very happy to know this is in the works! ;)
I tend to vote or make a comment when I have uploaded an image & am taken to the new images gallery, I try & make at least one comment & vote once each time I do so.
I have kinda noticed voting/comments have dropped off of late. So the new gallery idea is a top idea. =]

This gallery idea should work nicely. Today I went through and voted for nearly 30 of the images on the top of the new images category, and discovered it is a tiring process. I don't expect anyone to vote on every single image that comes in, but it would be a nice thing to do if you are already looking at it. The more I vote, the less comments I write, so I try to do a mix of both. Generally if there are already at least a dozen comments on an image, I won't comment because I feel that the publicity should be shared. Is this wrong?
Why does everybody, myself included, vote for the ones they like and not the ones they dislike? I know that the standard for the site is high, and that 5 should be average, but any image rated at 5 by enough people will get knocked off, hence the high standards. Why does 7 seem like the real "average" then?
i vote for both like and dislike. and i also am doing the same thing with my images; if there aren't enought votes or they are too low i take them off. i think if an image is going to go in to your favorites' then you should give it an 8 or better.
Sorry but to go back to this new gallery. Caedes, could images be uploaded into this gallery. Or will existing images be added to it by the image mods?
Raziel the lonely images gallery would automatically scan the new images list for anything that fits the requirements. From what I understand it wouldn't be moved from the new images gallery, it would stay there but also appear in the lonely images gallery as well.

You know stuffinstuff, there are a large number of new images that appear on this site, and very quickley. I believe that the key to getting good votes and decent views is timing on when you upload the pic. If you upload the pic at say 11:00pm, most of us are asleep :) Or if you vote during the middle of the day on a weekday, we might be at work or school. So I think it's best to upload at arround 6pm or sometime on saturday when most people are online. Also, make sure ur image "Grabs" viewers on the thumbnail. I have a really interesting image, but not alot of votes because the thumbnail is not very impressive. Just some things to keep in mind :)
this was a major problem b4 the upload limit. but I think less of one now. my images tend to stay on the first page for almost half a day usually. So I get comments and votes no matter when I upload. As far as making the thumbnail attractive, this could be a factor in mind for fractal artists such as yourself but I dont think we photographers have a choice in the matter haha.
I'm not a big desktop car fan. but ya this is popular. also wanted to mention for radjehuty, that not only considering the upload limit. But the broad range of time zones, I think the "prime time" is a much bigger window than u might expect.
Agreed, but also the day of the week and time of the year :) Seemed to me that around 12-4pm here during the summer, most people are on, and I get almost immediate responses. Now that the Summer is over, I'll have to adjust my timing :)
I'd also like to have a "Lonely" gallery. My only picture here has been up for several weeks and doesn't have any more votes than it did 2 weeks ago. A "Lonely" gallery is a great idea. I also think it would be cool if along with all of the voting, views, and download information of a picture, that caedes.net would list the date the picture was uploaded. http://caedes.net/Zephir.cgi?lib=Caedes::Infopage&image=retro-1092681633.jpg
I think a 4 hr alottment is too small, over the summer there also was no upload limit. from 6pm-10pm would be times people would log on in the week
just in my country, I'm in eastern time, people in california are 3 hrs behind, so their 6pm-10pm would be 9pm-1am here, extending the peak time for americans to from 6pm-1am
