Caedes Cadre....

I don't know if this would be a good idea or not, or if its already in place, but I think that there should be some additions to the Caedes Cadre. I think that if a person has been on longer than me, and paid cumulatively more than I did, that they should have more benefits than me. So I was thinking that for every certain amount of money you donate, you should have a higher upload limit, or shorter flood time or something like that. Might make people more driven to donate :)

I see where you are going with this but....I know there must be some who visit this site who cannot donate as much as others, not because they do not want to, but because of limited funds. I don't think it would be fair to divide benefits in this way. The monetary entry to the Caedes Cadre is low enough so just about anyone would be able to afford it and still be able to show their support. Know what I mean?

True, maybe I should just say contributions in general. I too have limited funds, but I when I donated to be in the Caedes Cadre, I wouldn't be offended or anything because someone else has more benefits than I do because they donated more money...

Having an increased upload limit is a small something to give back for nice contributions. And it could be cumulatively like $5 a week or month w/e. Or maybe being allowed to upload an Icon of larger size, small things you know? Something to motivate people to contribute or attract potential Cadre members.

I do see your point though.

I dont have a steady cash flow to donate to the cadre. I got in by winning contests, what should that entitle me to?

Well I'm trying to get at like the more contributions a person makes in SOME WAY not nececarrily monetary contributions, the more benefits a person should have. I'm not sure what other contributions one could give, but I am just thinking that if a person were to contribute quite a bit, that it should entitle them to something..

Plus I think there is a reason for having small amounts on upload limit for the image overflow issue ..and the flood time really isn't that bad ya know ..just one minute and they have that for a reason too.. Nice idea though.

Winning a contest is a hard thing to do, so that should automatically recieve the highest rewards in my opinion. I haven't won one, and I don't think I will, but that is how I feel about that issue. The icon size is good small, because people with dial-ups must have a terrible time as it is. I am not opposed to little extras, I just don't have any suggestions. I am sure there are more creative people out there, any thoughts?

I think people who have been members for longer would tend to upload less then new members anyway. I know I certainly upload less images now than when the "novelty" was a new thing. I agree that donations should be rewarded (after all, in the end, that's what keeps the site online) but how to do it is a more difficult question.

Is Tracy serious about ranking the members of the cadre? I actually appreciate the flood limit; sometimes my internet acts up, and it keeps me from sending the same message twice. If it was 5 minutes I would complain, but at least it is less than the upload limit... ;-)

thats an error on your side I think lol. Especially if you either click the button too fast to submit, or your mouse is acting up. My old mouse constantly clicks on its own now. infinately. But omg that flood limit is so annoying. I know why they might be implemented, but I think that if someone were to become part of the Caedes cadre by paying money or in other ways, it is highly doubtful that someone would just try to spam people. lol

then set the flood limit to much less than a minute...

Double posts happen pretty fast....so if the flood limit was around 10 seconds, it should eliminate that problem... A minute seems a bit long, and overkill

I think that regular members should stay at the minute flood limit, and all caedes cadre members have a greatly REDUCED not eliminated flood limit. I can see why there would be a limit, not just for glitches, but so that we don't flood the server, but only a handful of members ever get to caedes cadre. So I don't think it would be too demanding on the server level...

Yeah...something less than a minute. It can get irritating when I am commenting on peoples work. I do type fast, and its not like this flood control will kill me or anything, but it does get a little annoying. And I really don't think that it would hurt to let those handful of people have maybe half the flood control limit of normal members.

Having to wait a minute between posts makes it more difficult to post pointless chatter and thoughtless or vitriolic comments. I would think it is more difficult to tear through the forums, distributing comments without regard when you have to wait for a minute.

To put it the other way round: I can't see anything to be gained from reducing the flood control to less than a minute. Why do you guys think it would be good to post comments more rapidly?

There are a few situations; Replying to the word game discussions is one. Also I think when you are trying to are trying to respond to peoples comments on your images in their profiles the flood control can be annoying. I think there are other circumstances where I have found it irritating but I can't remember the specifics at the moment.

First up, it really doesn't make people think harder to post. Honestly, most people don't want to. Pointless chatter is going to happen even if there was a 2 minute control. They would just wait longer to post whatever they have to say. Especially since there is a forum constructed in this way. As far as benefit, I also find it annoying when I might look through a person's gallery and post on multiple images that I like. I type fast, and have a fast internet connection, so it only takes maybe 15 seconds to post something on the first image, and jump over to another image and post something. Then the limit catches me. Not a big deal, but when it happens often, it does get irritating. Or if you are going through your subscriptions, it can be done very fast to post a little something to respond.

I just don't think it's necessarry to have it as a one Minute long flood control for the handful of members who are Cadre or higher. I can see maybe a 10 second control to prevent double posting by accident, but as far as preventing a flood on a server level, it shouldn't be a problem if it only applies to the small group of cadre or higher members.

As ever, it comes down to personal experience, I guess.

I have only ever found the flood control irritating on a tiny handful of occasions. As such, it is not an issue I have ever had to think about.

I suppose it is a bit long in some cases
recently I posted on one subject, read the most recent topic and made a comment but got the flood error, was able to read the comment again, then make changes to my post, resubmit, and still be within the 1 minute, waited, resubmited and still within the 1 minute, then resubmitted successfully.

But thats definitly a first.

Sometimes it gets really frustrating when I get the flood control, go back, and then the message I typed out isn't there for some reason (Most likely cookie issues). Then I have to retype it all in. Especially when the message is long. But I guess me or someone else thinking it is annoying really isn't gonna do anything ;)
