when i started i just looked at what others were doing (in whatever section that you are interrested) and planned how i could achieve a similar result .... i have photo shop now amongst others, and i hardly ever use it ... i have a free program that came with a printer that i bought (about $20 in value) that i use mostly.. so it is not a necessity to have expensive software to create images
best of luck ... and i look forward to seeing your work

hmmm, i guess thats a good way to start, but I think it would be better not to try and achieve the same results as others but to not worry about others and try to be original?

sorry noob ... i agree with you about that... i spose what i was trying to say was that by seeing what others do might give you an inspiration as to what direction that you want to travel in eg fracs photo etc and by using whatever software you have available what steps you have to use to eg enhance magnify etc.. another way is to use the tutorials .. i found them extremley helpful

Photoshop is expensive, but you don't have to get the latest version. I'm still happily using photoshop 6.0. You can pick up old versions on ebay, for example. I think on another post somebody mentioned an open source program called The Gimp. Can't remember what platform it ran on.
