Just a request; if you have used any of the tutorials and find them useful, please vote on them. Currently my "Bryce tutorial" is my lowest ranked image of all and I feel like it's dragging down my rank! Not that I care about such things... but if the c-index doesn't improve I will probably delete it.

I have to admit that I already voted that tutorial very high. I skew my votes for tutorials, at a few points to my vote just because the person put in the time to make a tutorial. I think others vote low because they are not eye pleasing images?

I think alot of people who vote on them probably don't even know what they are.

I've been wondering...
-If one person views an image multiple times does it continue to increase the view and dl count?
-If you've already voted does it increase even then.
-and finally do votes and dls increase if the author views and dls the page?

If so at all then it seems like the more popular a tutorial is then the lower it could get ranked which seems wrong....

1. only counts each member view once, however i believe anonymously you could view it again.
2. not sure what u mean by this question
3. the authors view and download does affect the c-index of the image.

Actually the views keep on adding up...at least from my end;-) I think the tutes should stay Sam, maybe they could be stripped of their c-index and not count as a regular image?

I did the tutorials I did so people could understand something or learn something, not so I could get a good score on them.

As long as they do what they were created for I am more than happy. =]

Yes Sam. These images must stay!!!
When a member needs to understand something, he goes in the "tutes" gallery and can search the better example.
I personaly learned a lot of things there...

Paws: I didn't do it for the score either. But I still don't think the rest of my images should have to suffer because of it.

Tutorials can be very helpful, but they often don't stay on long because they get poor votes or possibly the author thinks it is unimportant.

Will created one based off a question I asked, and even if I don't have the camera yet, I find it informative. I will definately need to examine it more closely if I do buy such a camera (I am hoping for the Canon 10D). :-) Thanks again!

I think that tutorial posters should get more attention for them, and the c-index should be rated on usefulness (perhaps a reminder by the voting box would help, or Darryl's idea would work too).

And for Brett, Anthony, and Darryl, I hate to add to the confusion, but I was under the impression that the author's views and votes count. Sometimes when I show others my stuff logged in under my account, I see the vote #, I come back to it a minute later, and both have gone up. Is it my imagination? I don't have all the answers, but that is what I experience.

your own view and downloads of your own pics do count for them, however like everybody else, only once.

i also dont see how having a low c-index hurts the rest of your images like everybody is saying. one of my tutorials, is ranked in the top 30% of my stuff. someone want to explain to me how one low c-index hurts the rest of them? anyways, the author list is ranked by the sum of c-indexes squared, so a low c-index will just raise the ranking a small amount, but it wont take it down.

Never mind. I didn't want to start a debate, it's just that I already deleted it once and some people asked me to restore it, but I still didn't like it sitting there constantly at the bottom of the list. I should have just made the decision myself and shut up about it... noone probably would have even noticed it was gone.

Haha, we could possibly post tutoriials under the Anonymous user that we had for Guess the artist and just place the authors name in the description. Of course the mods must know the password;-)

On second thoughts, I think there is a way ( I recall having a discussion about the same topic regarding the "Guess the Artist contest).

It's possible to change the owner (ie, whose gallery it's in), but not the file name. You guys should know this! :-p
