I'm thinking of trying to get some of my images printed as posters. I'm not sure if they are large enough to print good quality posters though, Generally they are at a resolution of 2272 x 1740. What would be the largest size I can print with these? Is there a way to enlarge the photo's for use as posters without them becoming pixelated?
Well in Windows explorer it says 180 dpi for vertical and horizontal resolution. Is it possible to increase the dpi through Photoshop? I'm totally clueless when it comes to printing.
Megapixels forum.
To have a good poster 30" x 20", you need a 4500 x 3000 pixels images...
If you've a 6 MP camera, you must limit the poster size at ± 20" x 15"
(20x150x13x150 = 5,85 MP). Ok?
Just for future reference: prismmagic's comment about dpi wasn't very informed. Once you know the resolution of the digital image the dpi that photoshop gives is basically meaningless. The minimum dpi that daprints allows generally is 150, so you'd need an image at 4500x3000px for a 30x20" print. I go for 300dpi usually.
haha, so that would require about a 16 picture stich together from a 6MP camera, once everythings overlapped. quite impressive. i've done that before, except it was just on a 3.2 mp camera. turned out (after a little croping) to be my pic mountain view:P
Well thankfully this poster wasn't of one photo. For photos you generally don't need such a high resolution since the gradual transitions in a photo will hide the resolution artifacts. There are other techniques you can use on photos as well.
