Holidays Gallery

When I was new to the site some years ago, one of the galleries I visited was the holidays gallery -- hoping for some good Halloween and Christmas wallpapers. There aren't very many there, and I felt disappointed. We have moved on a few years, and that situation hasn't changed at all.

When I got more used to the site and the way it worked, I realized that there are far more holiday wallpapers on the site than there appear to be. They mostly go under Photography, Digital Illustration, 3D, Fractals etc.

I know I'm just one of the ordinary users of the site, but I personally would love to see more holiday wallpapers in the holiday gallery. It's not just for Christmas, but also for Halloween, Valentine's Day, Easter etc. I've even seen a 4th of July wallpaper in there.

I think it would make it easier for people (particularly temporary visitors) who are looking for those specific themes. Otherwise these wallpapers tend to disappear in the general 'technique' folders.

Is there a reason why the Holidays gallery is avoided? Maybe there's something I'm missing. :-)

I agree with Tootles, as I too, would love to see more categories under the Holiday theme, for ease of searching. As it stands now, there are only 8 pages of holiday wallpapers (5 being dedicated to Christmas). I would also like to see more images being submitted to the "Holiday" theme and sub-categories.

I don't think that the holiday theme is being avoided, just forgotten or overlooked. Perhaps some clarification is in order... (for example) must the words "Merry Christmas" be on the image itself or in the title, for it to qualify for the Holiday theme? I have seen some recent submissions that would make great Halloween or Thanksgiving wallpapers, and yet they were submitted to another theme (Photography, 3D, or Fractals).

I think holidays should be the same as the contest gallwry; ie the image goes into "photography" but is also tagged so tgat it appears in "holidays". Holidays really is one of those categories that is too open to interpretation to be a normal gallery...

it's also upto the individual what gallery they upload to - we don't move images unless they have been put in a completely inappropriate gallery - photos in cg, pet snaps in the animal gallery etc.

as for the wording - id guess most people prefer not to have it for their desktop images and indeed, most if the best ones in the permanent gallery don't have any wording as the images speak clearly for themselves.

Would that be possible, Sam? I think that's a great idea :)

If you post it as a suggestion in the feature bloat forum, Geri might be able to implement it.

Would those 'tagged' images show up in the Holidays gallery even if they had been archived from Digital Illustrations or whatever? It would be a quick way of improving the Holidays gallery, anyway, if people's holiday pictures went in there regardless of where else they had categorized them. :-)
