New rules and posting snapshots

I noticed when I posted two days ago that the site has changed a bit. One is a new checkbox which asserts that the new image complies with Caedes Code of Conduct, and the other that the image isn't a personal snapshot. At the same time I'm hearing from several people that their images have been removed, but I haven't seen any announcements from caedes about new policies. What's up?

The work of art may have a moral effect, but to demand moral purpose from an artist is to make him ruin his work. (Johann Wolfgang von Goethe - 1832)

Was anything ever decided on the number of personals allowed? If none, then will the permanent personal gallery be removed?

Caedes, I cannot tell you how grateful I am to have this forum through which to get feedback on my work. You offer it for free, and I realize it must involve a tremendous amount of your uncompensated time. It is a mature professional bunch, and they have helped me enormously with my work.

Having said that, I would have liked to have seen an announcement on the front page of the site before the new rules went into effect. Their introduction seems to have generated some ill will which Caedes.net does not deserve given its nature as a free site dedicated to helping all of us - image generators as well as downloaders. I have since found myself gently defending a policy which I don't entirely understand.

My last post didn't make it. I don't entirely understand.

Dwight, the last post I can see that you made did not upload correctly, and shows up on the site as a blank white image. This is entirely unrelated to the snapshot policy and was just an error in transmission.

As an aside to all, the mods discussed this for a long time, and the policy was posted long ago for review by all users of the site. The idea behind the new policy is not to keep people from sharing photos but to keep people from abusing caedes' bandwdth with personal photos. (For example, the user(s) with galleries made completely of photos of their dogs in different hats.) I know that I would give a little leniency to new/developing artists, and I assume the other mods will do the same. I'm not saying that to try to close the discussion, if something is/isn't working for you, please let us know. We're certainly not trying to alienate anyone over this, but caedes is working to improve the signal-to-noise ratio for everyone.

I know now that it was discussed in the discussion forum, and I am not complaining. To the contrary I support this site, and I understand the need for the rules change. There is an unacceptable amount of personal garbage being dumped in the galleries. My suggestion was that in the future we make use of the announcements on the website front page to warn our users that this is coming before it does. It's a touchy-feely thing that I as a professional programmer of fifteen years experience have learned that users like to get. It makes them feel that they're a part of the process instead of feeling like something was just done to them.

Posting an image here is a privilege, not a right. Snapshots belong in a personal briefcase on webshots or yahoo or photo.net or wherever. Not here.
