Whats with the complete block of snapshots?
Werent there plans for a separate gallery so that snapshots wouldnt have to hurt the eyes of those too important to be forced to look at those evil snapshots in the new images?
"This image isn't a non-artistic snapshot"
Someone find me the definition of non-artistic, I dont want to break the rules (yes that was sarcasm).
Didnt Henri Cartier-Bresson become a legend because of so called "snapshots"
Are there no plans for a snapshot gallery of some sort?
If not, I think this idea is a mistake. But hey, I'm just one opinion...
In some other forum I saw Caedes respond to this question. I believe he said it was not one of his priorities to encourage the proliferation of images which have little meaning or significance to users who are not intimate to the uploader. The main reason fro this was that the users and supporters of Caedes.net would realize little return on our investment. I hope I haven't misquoted him
I read the earlier discussion. I think with the current design of a new images gallery, and a permanent gallery where all of the "lower quality" new images are weeded out, this is enough quality control for the website. I dont see any sense in blocking images that will eventually be deleted anyway, what is the purpose other than relieving yourself of having to view their thumbnails as you quickly skim through to the better images. It seems to me to be a bit of an egotistical move with a group of artists/imagery that has not yet that kind of authority. Oh well...
I don't see the point in those checkboxes when you upload. What some people may say is artistic, I might not..."Art" is a subjective word and it makes no sence to have that as a checkbox. It does make sence to have one giving Caedes permission to post it...and for somereason that one vanished....
Darryl, not all will skim through them, alot of users on the site enjoy the snapshots (or they wouldnt upload them to begin with). The skimmers I were referring to were those who are for the snapshot rules.
agree about art being subjective. I understand the need for quality control, but I think that plenty of quality control was already in place. whats the purpose of the new images gallery, if you are gonna block any, why not simply block all images that wont be making it to the permanent galleries.
The sentence does not say "This image is not non-artistic"... it says "non-artistic snapshot". A loose definition of "snapshot" then linked. I believe the check box is there to ensure image contributors are aware that this is not a site to upload snapshot pictures of your buddies that you took at last night's party.
perhaps, but considering the snapshot rule, I think more than just this type of images is being blocked. I believe gabis first 10 or so images had date stamps until I suggested to her I remove them in advance, then she learned to turn this off on her camera.
Either way, I may disagree with the rule, but it is what it is. I am sure the site will continue to strive regardless, it has in the past. You cant ask for everything I suppose...
On a positive note, the rule does show that the moderators and caedes, and considering issues with the site, addressing them, and attemtping to solve them. So hats off.
I know this is pretty much what noobguy is saying, but I felt like restating it again, I guess.
I really wasn't aware that "snapshotting" was that much of a problem...usually after two dls, a low C-index, and/or a few helpful comments the problem usually fixes itself...perhaps I'm wrong tho.
...I feel one of the best things about this site is the large quantity of mature artists willing to help out the more novice ones...I don't see how these 'snapshots' can really be seperated between people just being difficult with people genuinely trying to learn.

Very true. The fact that someone is taking the time to develop policy, go through the images, and notify people when they make a tough decision, shows they care about the site and how it develops. It's much easier to do nothing!
