A Personal Permanent Perspective

The first image I had chosen for the Permanent Galleries caused me to leap up and down in delight (not a pretty sight at my age) and my family thought I had gone mad. I think everyone remembers their first 'perm' and everyone should be pleased each and any time it happens.

Most of us have images we hoped would 'have made it' but didn't, and have felt disappointment.

Many members have yet to have an image selected - and all members are in that position to begin with - Rome was not built in a day and sometimes it takes a while before it happens but I say keep trying, keep learning and keep posting.

Unfortunately to many the word 'archived' is a sign their image has failed - and that is not the case. Archived images are not deleted or hidden away where no-one can get to them, they are still part of your personal gallery. Perhaps the word 'archive' is misleading - just try to think 'gallery' instead :)

The Permanent galleries can be regarded as the showcase of the site - good examples of what else is available. Having just one of your images placed there opens the door by way of a simple click to the whole of the rest of your personal gallery, accessible to all.

Much emotion disapointment and upset is caused by the choice of 'perm' images which perhaps is wasted energy - and too much importance placed in that area on a personal level.
Having images in the permanent galleries does not make anyone a better person or a better artist, it just means your image is representing the site because its quality and suitability has been noticed.

The Permanent Galleries are important for caedes the site , but I believe that caedes members should spend less time worrying about it and just get on with producing the best work they can, take inspiration from others and learn all they can from them, by example and the help and advice they can give.

Be glad if one of your images is chosen but do not be greatly upset if not.
Remember that there are many fine images in the 'archives' as well.
Be glad we have a place to display our work.

:) LE

I agree with you wholeheartedly Lyn. I have long thought and written to people who are concerned at their perceived lack of success that provided they are happy with their image and have had sound comments from friends that they can trust then non-elevation to the Perms gallery or a low C-index should not bother them.

I am not saying that The Permanent Galleries or a high C-index are not desirable or important, I was as pleased as anyone when I first received a C-index of 90 and when I finally had an image put into the Permanent Galleries but I really do believe that these milestones are not the be-all and end-all of being a member of this site.

Lyn you so elegantly put into words what I was thinking. Whenever I try and place my thoughts into written format, its like a group of juvenile midgets with muddy feet stomp on my words and make them appear more like cow pies instead of well thought out comments. I believe Success is the result of your efforts, not the reward for your efforts. And for those that suffer from it, Emotional disappointment should be a result of not trying, not from the denied entry to the Perms. I remember as a young man trying to kiss a girl. I was never disappointed if I did not succeed. heck I was just happy I had a girl I could try and kiss. Like you said Lyn, just be glad we have a place to display our work. Does anyone know what the word "Archive" means? - to avoid permanent deletion. Heck Yes! I agree with you Lyn. And for your comments, I am going to try and send you a mental smoochie half way around the world. Let me know if it makes it to the Perms. :)

Hear.....hear.....and Lyn has spoken!!

But your so right, Lyn about all of this :o)

I think if you only are posting here with the intention to get all of your pictures in the perm. gallery or for a high c-index * o oh...that word again..* than your not having fun in the meaning of posting or even better sharing your work with other members/visitors and to learn to get better in your work with the constructive comments you are receiving on your work!

So, folks, stop worrying about the perm. gallery and the c-index and just enjoy your stay here, enjoy work from other artist, give good comments or not, that's up to you.
