Do you sometimes get creative block? How do you deal with it?

Here are two links I found:
BBC News: How great artists have fought creative block
DA News: Art Blocked? The Anatomy of Art Block

I would probably have collected more links, but fatigue set in. ;-)

Not exactly sure of the physiological mechanisms involved, however, for me?

Cue up a music playlist and just start dabbling.

Seems, more often than nought ... creative block comes into play when my mind is too preoccupied with .. stuff. Silly stuff, for the most part.

As the music plays, find myself being freed from whatever silly focus I might have had ... a creative paradigm shift, of sorts, occurs ... by those parts of my brain stimulated by the music ... and in turn, leads to me being more 'creative'. Simply put.

Back to 'Cracklin' Rosie'? Actually, you may have a point. Used to play music while studying! For current purposes I should play 'The Specials', who had black and white check on their album covers... (goes off humming 'Do Nothing').

To all creative connoisseurs: I thoroughly enjoy posting my art and expressing my opinion on CAEDES. To prevent my work from becoming Stale, I am forced to feast on my Creative energy. Sometimes I do experience blockage. As a cure for many years I would search my house for something interesting to read before entering my asylum. This activity has helped to loosen the Creative blockage. On occasion I have been known to immerse my thoughts into Photographic or Photoshop magazines for long periods of time. Its relaxing and quiet in there, and no one bothers me, except for the few who dont understand, and ask me every few minutes if Iv fallen in. I never play music or sing in there, but reading has provided relief from Creative and Physical blockage. I think a persons mind is more fluid when he or she is in the asylum, and allows information to provide food for creativity without clogging the readers mind. I could go on and on, but there are only three reasons why I have even written this comment. 1ST - its a challenge to come up with interesting home remedies for common problems. 2ND - it a pleasure to write for an audience that is going to read this once, or maybe 2 or 3 times. Finally 3RD - if you also are a Bathroom reader, you can be assured that my opinions have been tested under actual Bathroom Readers conditions.

Whew!

Thankfully, Moose's 'reading material' has been sanctioned and received the seal of approval by the "B.(athroom) R.(eaders) S.(ociety)".

Once flagged, and without that seal ... wellll, might as well use it for .. ahem ... 'paper' in the facilities.

Photo/art mags in the UK are expensive... I was dismayed when comparing the prices of them to other magazines. But I can't resist the occasional issue, especially when my mood is low. I have just sent a long-suffering relative out to bag 3D World. :-)

Heyyyy!!

Just hit me ... peruse the Main Galleries!!

(And I am being serious here.)

Which is not unlike that of Tootle's thoughts expressed in her post above (and that of Moose's; aka pastureyes). Finding inspiration via other works or that of some new tutorial/technique.

Or..

Can take the Stephen King/Greg; aka Foxfire66 approach ... schedule some time and just.. do it.

p.s. Stephen King scheduled his creative day, much like that of a work day. 'Show up at the office' at 9 ... write till 5.

The important thing was to write. Or, in other words ... do.

I've been out of ideas for abstract/PSP work lately (except what comes straight out of Xaos), but today I did a piece inspired by an artist here that I just discovered a day or two ago.
Now if I can just re-find the piece that inspired me ...

There are few situations in life that cannot be honourably settled, and without any loss of time, either by suicide, a bag of gold, or by thrusting a despised antagonist over the edge of a precipice on a dark night. -- Kai Lung

"Knowing this I decided to ask some of today’s most exciting artists and creators what they do when the ideas aren’t flowing. I left the question fairly open ended and asked, What do you do to inspire your creativity when you find yourself in a rut? As expected, I was presented with an array of strategies, ranging from listening to Boards of Canada in a forest alone, to cooking up a storm (recipe provided) and waiting for the mind to clear.

What follows are 25 strategies from these creatives to spark your inspiration; hopefully you’ll find something helpful in there."

I tried something completely different. The inspiration came from the title sequence of a TV program.

Yes, Chris (Coram9) is spot on; sometimes I think the main thing that spurs me on is experimenting and trying something different. When a new piece of software becomes an old favourite, that's good in a way, but it's also bad. ;-)

I tried the 'just do' principle a few days ago: something for the b&w contest, but I wasn't all that interested even to start with, and ended up feeling even worse. You wake in the morning and think "oh, I've got to do that thing I was doing... such a slog!" :-( So I stopped. I don't know how those working on commission manage to keep going.

Just off to read 'Overcoming Creative Block'. :-)
