Hey everyone.
Can anyone point me towards and good, clear tutorials for making my own Photoshop brushes etc? Think it's about time I learnt to make more of my own brushes and stock.

People aren't going to remember the things you do. They're going to remember how you made people feel. Be kind, gracious, and appreciative. Dan Winters - Photographer.

This may be a naive question. I have been much attracted by the abstract gallery and have used several pieces found there as my desk top. It appears that everyone uses photoshop along with several other tools. Is photoshop a sine qua non to do this kind of thing? Are the other tools equally necessary? I find the items in the abstract category almost hypnotizing and would like to try composing abstracts. Any answer even if negative would be very much appreciated.

Hi Martin,

I am not a fractalist. One of them will come along and give you the info you need.

Glad you like the work you are seeing and we welcome you here at caedes.net!

Enjoy your time here!

Martin, one of my favorite movies of all time is "Cool Hand Luke."

Now, as for programs to get you started with fractals, I am only familiar with one program and it is very good. It is Mandelbulb 3D. It is a free program and you can find it easily on the net with Google. There are many other programs and you will probably see additional posts after mine telling you about them.

I do post work in both PhotoShop and PhotoFiltre. PhotoShop is not free but PhotoFiltre is and it too is easily found with Google.

Best wishes to you and I hope you find what you are looking for. ~~ John

Well Martin, I too use Mandelbulb 3D and use Photofiltre for most of my post work on the art. But another really great program thats really simple to use is Sterling2. If you type sterlingware 2 in the google search, the very first thing is for the program. I really enjoy that one too! For post work some other programs are Gimp, Paint.Net, and PhotoScape. With Mandelbulb 3D you can change about any number and get a different result. Just to tell you, making fractals is just a chance thing. You can't really set out to make a specific design. The designs just happen! If you want the Mandelbulb 3D just google Mandelbulb 3D download and its also the very first thing there. Good luck!

unless your the kinda person whos just into makin brushes my advice is get them from a place that gives them away for free or from a place that requires a link.myself i like to trade something for them, for instance if your a photographer trade stock pics for brushes.

By the way Martin, should you have other questions about the site, I would be happy to help you with them. That is, if they fall into any area where I have some knowledge ;)

Feel free to PM me or ask it here on the boards. ~~ John
