I just got Terragen downloaded on my comp and have done a couple of images. The problem is that I don't really know what I am doing. Can anyone lend any tips or suggestions?

At what point of the are you in? Are you starting to master sun rays or have you not quite figured how to move the camera? I am not a pro by any means, but I have made a few images. I can tell you what I know if I know where you are at, and also reccomend a list of higher authorites. :-)

The question is too braod. Do you need assistance with camera positioning, generating/altering land forms, skies, sun settings, water, texture maps, etc. etc...

It sounds to me like you need to read some tutorials, go to the TG website, there are links there. It's impossible to cover all the aspects of terragen here...

ah I see. I have done a couple of images, which have improved quality-wise. However sometimes they are a little ropy on the resolution side of things.....sort of obviously cg....like the occasional straight line.

Anyhow, I'll look at the website and see what I can find.

Thanks for your help.

To get the best possible quality in your final render:
- Turn detial up to maximum
- Set resolution to maximum (1280 x 960)
- In "Settings" under Rendering Control, turn atmosphere and cloud shading accuracy to maximum.

Keep in mind that if you haven't been doing these things previously, rendering will take much longer than before. Also remember to turn them all down again if you are going to continue doing previews.

I hope everything works out. I have learned a couple tricks creating fog layers, but I certainly haven't mastered it yet. Let me know if it interests you.

Oh question how do you adjust the texture on the land without registering teragen? I mean when you use the land raising thing it becomes too smooth and unreal. Any ideas?

You can try generating new terrain on top of the existing terrain. Just be sure to make the size of the new features small.

you can edit the realism before you generate the terrain.

Ashley is talking about stretching the terrain after you have already generated it I think.

hmm....I think you can still adjust the realism. Will have to try it.
