Hello. I'm new to this site and I absolutely LOVE all the abstract images. I haven't seen anywhere on the site that these pictures can't be used for webpages as well, but I just want to be certain. Is it ok if I use one of the images as a background for a website? Should I credit the maker of the image on the page?

It's always best to send a personal message to the author of the image to be sure it's O.K. with them...many would be happy to accomodate you...with credit and maybe a link to their gallery.:Pat.

I agree with Pat! Always better to ask first because all images here have copyrights. I think using the images as bacgrounds wouldn't hurt but distributing them is another matter! So background it is yeah?:0))!

Using an image as a webpage background is not considered to be "personal use" (since it is technically a form of redistribution), so you need special written permission from the author of the image.

Caedes has given the quick answer, but I want to expand on it a little. Every image page, right below the image sizes, displays the author's copyright and a link to this site's copyright policy. (Here is the link again so you won't need to look it up). On this policy, it expressly forbids others from using work they download here for webpage backgrounds, without the author's permission. So to legitimately use an image from caedes.net for a webpage background, you must send the author of the image a PM or email and request their permission. Most of the authors here are very friendly and will easily agree to allow this when asked, but most would also quickly become angry if their works were taken without their permission or knowledge.

" I'll definitely ask the owner for permission first."

" Just wanted to say I asked the author's permission and he was very friendly and told me there was no problem using it"

Note, people not doing this very easy way could face serious issues if someone caught you breaking these terms/rules, you could end up having your site pulled and worse.

I wouldn't be nice about it if someone ripped my images and used them on a site without asking me and crediting me with them. It takes a few seconds to ask, it takes much longer to get out of trouble if you don't.

& lastly, you will get caught eventually, it is only a matter of time, so it really is not worth the risk. (:

I am like Yin & Yang, my lighter side is balanced by my darkerside, embrace both & you get the whole me, play with one & you will meet the other... www.ganjataz.com ~ www.ganjataz.co.uk And lastly, View an image, vote on it, then bloody comment on it. How else are we artists to know what you like or don't if you do not tell us?

lol thanks co2metal. I just read that and I was like "what?" Um, didn't I make this post to ensure that I didn't do anything wrong? If I was the kind of person to just rip somebody off I wouldn't have even asked.

I think he was using it as an example of what other people should do, and how simple it is to get permission.
