I am sorry, but I have to say that some of the entries, winners, are morbid for me, maybe because I hate cemeteries. But very often the winning photos are prejudiced. When I see a soldier, a soldier and a member of his family, plane in the sky, a monument from some battle or something similar, I know it's going to win. I don't know if it's sincere or just to show some kind of patriotism. Or maybe we non-Americans don't have the same feelings for those things of yours. Very often the photos don't correspondent to the theme of the contest, but I don't mind if they are beautiful and artistic.
Don't misunderstand me, I am not offended that I don't win, but that's my opinion. I like to see winning really good photos.

Sorry again if somebody is offended, but I had to say it because I like Caedes and I am honest and I like to be here with you.

My best wishes

Milka

I am puzzled Milka (?)
I have looked through the last 12 or so contest results and do not see this trend at all. There is one photo in the last contest that fits the cemetery description but I think it was entirely suitable for the subject and deserved its placement.

Occassionally I struggle to see the connection between an entry and the subject but always think that the artist and maybe others see what I do not in the interpretation.

I agree with Milka. Not on the Patriotism or Morbid part.Just the fact that the winning entry has nothing to do with the subject..Answer,Like me,Don't enter the contest...R.

Like LynEve I went through the previous contests back to last August (2012) and no winner was a graveyard, morbid, a soldier, a plane or anything particularly american. Two of the winning entries were mine and quintessentially British. I also see a reason for the entries and they match the title of the contest extremely well. When I look at the contest entries I do fail to see why some images have been entered, but they rarely get placed. It seems that the judges (that is the members of Caedes) are quite astute in choosing winners.

I too have found that sometimes there are much better entries in the contests that did not get even a placement. Why not show every time how many votes each one of the winning entries got? That will keep everybody happy, I think.

I agree with Raj. We are never informed about the voting, is it that big secret? Very often the awarded shots have nothing to do with the theme. In school if you miss the theme you get F, not A. And sometimes I have a feeling that the same people get the awards, and usually Caedes Cadre. Is it about money? Should I buy the award? No, thanks.

Being a cadre member has no bearing on eligibility to vote.

I personally have no wish to see the number of votes for each image - I just take it as read that the majority voted for the winners, regardless that it may not have been my choice.

The most recent contest Technology I thought the placements were spot-on.
I missed voting on it myself.

Just an observation - three of the five placegetters were not Caedes cadre.
Of the total entries six were not and seven were so to me there appears to be no bias at all.
I think it is perhaps a bit insulting to winners of contests to suggest they 'bought' their placements.

I wasn't talking about voting of Caedes Cadre, but getting the awards. Almost always the first two places, when they get one or two months membership are members of cadre.

And one more thing. There are many members who are not active in posting shots everyday, not commenting, but they only send one contest shot and very often they win. They usually say they don't have time and when the contest is close to the end, they find time. Funny, but that's life, we do that with other things, too.

If somebody is insulted by my mentioning money, I apologize, that wasn't my intention.

My best wishes for all Caedes members

Milka

The awards go to the winners who are voted by caedes members, so it should be fair. I am sure when voters choose they are looking at the images and not the artists or whether or not they are cadre members. Of the 14 contests held so far this year, from the 28 first and second placements eleven of them have been non-cadre members.

Maybe we need to be less concerned about who wins and just enjoy taking part, meeting the challenge of the subject and enjoying the work of others. In my mind everyone that enters is a winner for having taken the trouble to produce an entry.

I have kept up Cadre membership since joining this site, having gained so much pleasure and learned so much from the site and I think the minimal $3 a month donated is a very small thing.
On the occassions I have been fortunate enough to receive an award in a contest I appreciate that people have voted for my effort. I then treat myself to some chocolate or a coffee for myself and a friend at a favourite cafe :)

The contests should get imaginations working and be fun for all, not a source of discontent.

I like this site and that's why I am still here. I don't participate in the contests very much, I am not a competitive type, I just react when I think that something is wrong or I don't like it. That's me, I love justice. LOL For example, the Main Galleries is full of B/W shots, what happened to the colors? I think that life is black and white enough. LOL

And, it's not about the money, they are almost nothing, but I can't pay with my cards from my country, I have to have another card for the USA, but I hate administration, I am too lazy for that. So I go on enjoying like before.

Greetings
Milka

Everyone who wins a contest is a Cadre member because we give Cadre membership to the winners. =)

Milka, I have to agree that it does seem that no promotions are being made from the New Images of late.
The B/W images in the Main Galleries, if you look at the categories, are images of Contests/B&W Challenge that have been chosen by members participating. Look at other categories if B.W is not something you enjoy.

Anyone is welcome to join in the B/W Challenge, and those that do seem to enjoy it. I have done my very best to make sure everyone feels welcome, following a suggestion almost a year ago that some extra contests could be started by anyone. I deliberately did not call it a 'contest', but a 'Fun Challenge' because it is not a competition, just a place to enjoy each others B/W efforts and tell the artists why. Although I like B&W and do upload some of my own I do not put them in the Challenge, but I do spent a considerable amount of time keeping it running. I enjoy doing that, and I have come to appreciate how enjoyable B&W works can be.

It is always a thrill to get an image promoted to the Main Galleries and that is something that HAS been missing for a while.
Perhaps if the Promotions could be got going again the balance would be reset. The last one added is dated in July.

I understand that is is not possible to use PayPal from Macedonia. That is one of the good things about the caedes site - - not being committed to becoming a member of the Cadre - we can participate in all areas without being a Cadre member, including the contests.

I believe the contest ended around 8:00PM last night.

The box you see now might be the one to view the entries!
