My sister was trying to brag about me to her friends, but she couldn't find my gallery. Not that I have anything in my gallery to brag about, but I understand her frustrations.
People who spend a lot of time here know shortcuts on getting to people's profile, usually by tracking comments (i.e. if I want to get to my profile from another computer without the hassle of typing my passowrd slowly over another's shoulder, I can simply click on a news article ont he homepage that I remember commenting on), but people who don't spend much or any time here get lost easily.
Could there be a search bar on the main page that would link you to either the person's profile or gallery, and if the gallery, could a button be made at the top that would link you to the person's profile? Suppose I wanted to view Lucy's latest amazing new image, I would type "Cain" into the search bar, and it would link me here.
I know a number of people off hand that would benefit from this, is implementing this possible? Also, if you do it quickly, then I can brag about how effiecient and effective caedes.net is at fizing potential problems. :-)
...as well as a bunch of other sites, trust me, I have tried it. I guess it just depends on how frequetly the same progression of characters is used. Great suggestion though.
You must understand that the sites reputation is at stake! Who is impressed by finding all sorts of back routes to something that should be straight forward???We all know how much work caedes puts into it, but to an outsider, it just looks like one of those all-too-common sites that was created and forgotten with no hope of improvement.
Yes, that was going to be my suggestion. I included the author's username in the search engine for the explicit purpose of being able to search for a username. Obviously I don't have a special field in the search engine for "author name," but the few usernames I tested it on seemed to work fine. I think I'll go ahead and link from the author's gallery to the profile though.
The wallpaper search works rather well, but it still involves an extra step, and it only works for the guests who have been advised by the members. As for the discussion board search, it takes forever to find anything (go figure) and the results could lead in the right place if you go through the steps that the members know how to do, but you still have to click on "Discussion Board" and then "Search" to get there.
I am aware that this author search could be considered unnecessary, but it would be helpful. Consider it from the confused first-timer trying to find their friend's work. Should they be given a very long URL that is painfully long to type in? Should they be told "Look under this discussion for this person's name and click it"? It just seems like common sense to have something easier, but then again, this isn't a personal site for personal use. Sorry for griping, thanks for listening, but do consider it. Thanks again!
I think that someone is confused here... I ment that if you go to the wallpaper search (not the discussion search) and type in the author's name, it will give you a list of mainly the author's images. What extra step does this require?
You've also just given me an idea of how to speed up the discussion board search.
