Many members have expressed an interest in having a Photojournalism gallery here at caedes. We have seen many images that would easily fit into this category that might otherwise be delegated to the General gallery or some other category that is not quite suitable. Oftentimes these images will also include an informative narrative to accompany the image, adding to its' value and interest. Furthermore, I believe it would be an added benefit and convenience to the members and visitors to caedes who may be seeking out a particular subject pertaining to human interest stories if there was a gallery of this nature that they could go to directly. Any chance we might see this feature added in the near future? Thank you for your attention and consideration in this matter.
I would like a Photojournalism gallery since we come from all over the world and all walks of life. Seems natural that we could do reports on what's going on in our part of the world.
We members don't ask for much, so why not make a concession once in a while.
I feel that this is one of those gallery ideas that would fill a need on the site. To me, a gallery for photojournalism would be a finer and a separate definition of a photo than the use of "General Gallery" now provides. Like the separation distinction between "Architecture" and "Castles/ruins," it would be a move from the general to the specific, and thus, better definition of the artists' intent to members and visitors to the site. I ask those who have the power to grant this request to please to so.
I suppose that by adding a 'photo journalism' gallery to Caedes, this site would be more attractive to its members, inclusive me. So I support the by Pat (aka SAW/mesmerized), and OFT (Tick/0930_23) forwarded idea!

I too support the idea of a photojournalism gallery - I was journalist early in my post college career and a photographer later in life - pictures as well as words are a great way to tell a story especially in today's visual age.
In 2016 I retired from a 33+ year career that heavily involved photography. Throughout my life I've been influenced by imagery, from my childhood, in which my brothers and I poured through each month's delivery of LIFE magazine, to today's digital world of internet news. Learning about and understanding the nature of the world and mankind's effect upon it is crucial for anyone wishing to discover our place here... here now and where we are headed, particularly at a time when climate change is coming to a head. Without that understanding, without some notice of current events, our ability to document beautiful places on earth may be more and more compromised as each year passes. Photojournalism is a part of our world.
If you've ever wanted to make a difference but found it hard to believe that one person could... check out the Kiva Team Caedes discussion thread and discover that anything is possible.
I am all in favor of a photojournalism gallery and hope that Caedes will give this most wanted category serious consideration. We have members in all four corners of the world - it will be most interesting, enlightening and enjoyable to see what images our members post. I do hope Caedes gives the green light on our request. Thank You
Count me in as a supporter of a photojournalism gallery. Given the global range of our participants, this would create an interesting array of photo images.
I definitively support adding a photojournalism category, there are several members that go the extra mile regarding subject matter added to the photo, this is enlightening and educational.
I think this is fantastic-- it's a very important type of photography, perhaps today more than ever...and definitely a gap in what we have here on Caedes!
It would most certainly fill a gap here on the site and add more interest and maybe more involvement, as journalistic photos often stimulate discussion I am definitely in favour
My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust
it could be a new challenge for us to upload intersting storytelling pictures, i sometimes miss a certain self-criticism, too many meaningless pictures are being uploaded ...
I second that thought from ro. Too many members treat this site like Instagram, as a dumping ground for vacation shots, cat pictures and aimless drivel. The intent should be to upload images that other people will keep and treasure, not just ourselves. The lack of self-criticism is stark when multiple images a day are being uploaded with no attempt at artistry or self-improvement. It dilutes the quality and relevance of the entire site when it's just narcissism and a 'look-at-me' attitude. If mesmerized's idea can put a little more self-awareness and storytelling rigor back into caedes, then I'm all for it. But I'm also a realist, and I know that being popular here is more motivating than having a unique vision that nobody looks at.
After the initial excitement I am surprised to see there are only 12 images visible in this new section. Four have been promoted and the other 8 are in the new images. Possibly there have been more that have slipped off the radar after their short time in the limelight.
I have to say about Russ's comments above that I find them rather extreme and possibly off-putting for many members. Numbers are diminishing and those comments do nothing to encourage people to stay. Helpful remarks on images considered worth improvement would be of greater value than calling them drivel. What one person labels artistry may be not what another person would. Only the uploader knows what effort has gone into their work and to have them dismissed as "just narcissism" is counter productive.
On the other hand I challenge anyone to to claim there is not a touch of narcissism in all of us who offer our work here - might as well keep it at home on our own computers otherwise and not bother showing it to anyone at all. Wanting to show our individual worlds and ideas is not the same as seeking personal popularity. It's called sharing. Some have the gift of writing a story to complement an image, others don't. Sometimes the image tells its own story.
Landscapes, flowers, CGI, bugs, birds, wildlife etc - all have their place and everyone has their own preferences. No category is 'better' or of more value than the others.
