Snapshot Fractals (Made intelligent)

Ok, I know I have probably lost almost all of the respect from the Caedes community in the past couple weeks or so with me childishly participating in pointless arguments. I may have said things out of anger that offended you. I was actually told that I have hurt the entire website and community with my expression of oppinions, and instead of appoligizing to individual people, I would rather appoligize in general to the community as a whole. I was also told that many people were personal messaging to a certain individual that I have offended them, and that they just don't have the courage to "speak up". Well, I am also sorry to those people. I have always been known in real life as a kid who was always mature for my age, and I would like to prove that in this thread by intelligently expressing my oppinions and feelings about "Snapshot fractals":

•My Oppinions:
--Snapshot Fractal: Any fractal image coming directly from the software with no additional manipulation or effort done to make them memorable or give them a distinct style to which I could guess who the artist that made that fractal would be.
----They equate to interesting looking found objects that have artistic potentials, but no effort done to them to express these potentials.

•My Feelings:
--I feel that art is something very personal. It is a way to express yourself in such a way that doesn't require you to get in a conversation with people and can also inspire other artists to create art also.
--If an art piece is left totally subjective to the audience without any effort to give your own perspective, it may possibly be fun for a little span of time, but most likely forgotten as other art pieces are observed.
--When I see these in the permanent galleries, I feel like I work too hard to achieve the same honor when creating my own works. I lack the skills needed to fully express myself due to the complexities of the computer as an artistic tool, but I think that when I finally get the hang of it, it would be a great accomplishment for me personally. Seeing these "snapshot fractals" makes me almost want to stop trying to pursue mastering digital art.

If any of you were offended in the previous statements, leave them to yourself and post your own thread.

If you agree or disagree, please feel free to reply in this thread, but I would like to ask you to keep your insults at bay and keep this thread as adult and clean as possible. Also, if you Personal message me, I will read up to the point where the insults begin, after that I will remove them without reading the rest, and I will not reply.

Thanks, and I hope I have gained atleast some of your respect back.

first off I would like to say thaty I ma not one of those offended by your comments. You are one person with one opinion and weather or not I or anyone agrees with it is moot. I do hope that these comments don't stunt would be artists. there are several people here that for whatever reason choose to not use secondary programd to turn a fractal image into something else other than the fractal. Me? I do both. I don't think either are any better or worse. It all depends on the image at hand at that time. a sunset is not enhanced by anything yet I still find myself facinated by each one. I se no reason ot snap a pic then use photoshop or whatever to enhance that sunset being I think that no photo that I could take would do it justice, i'm sure there are photo ppl here that can..I'm not one.

I hope you work just as hard as ever on your images. i hope when they are finished that you are truly happy with them. That is what matters at the end of the day. I have had plenty of images trashed on ofer the time here and most of the time I believe it was for good reason. It just makes me want to do better. if I never get better I still get to see some great work..many that are just made with a fractal program that someone thought after a long time of messing around with looked real nice and ecieded to post it. I thank each of these people fore I been allowed ot see them and reap the rewards of someone's hard work. If someone likes what you call a "Snapshot Fractal" so what? They like it, the artist liked it, no one asked you to. Give your opinion if you wish and move to the nextimage that you may like better.

I am but one man, with one opinion. I wish no ill will to any of the artists that post on this site and yes...I call everyone that has the guts to post here an artist. some I like better than others. I don't post comments a lot being 90% of these people know a lot ore than me so what can I tell them. i do vote a lot and comment where I believe I can do some good.

Well..that's one mans opinion of your post. i look forward to seeing your work in the future.

I see no reason to insult you or anyone here. we are all just trying to make someting that possibly one other poerson will like enough to maybe keep for themselves or if nothing else the artists get to do something that makes THEM feel better. Art is a release from the soul aritst and somehing to behold. Like a sunset; sometimes simple yet you can't look away.

It's always a great temptation to get involved in childish arguments, because they can be exciting and fun at the time. It's important, however, to know when you pull out before things get ugly. I'm glad you realize this now. It's something I think everyone (or most everyone) goes through at one time or another.

I agree with your understanding of and sentiments about snapshot fractals btw...

Well written post.. I do fully agree with all you said.. it is just that some of us use this site as a fun hobby to share neat images they make, and others use it in a more serious way, trying to improve their skills. Each has a hard time understanding the others' viewpoints, and in my opinion, that's the main reason for all of this prior hostility.

You know Dave, it's kind of sad that it's you that had the spine to stand up and take the hit for the low road taken by so many of the threads here lately. I, myself have felt the urge (to which I have sometimes given in) to "put someone in her (or his) place" when the person becomes abusive to others, but I eventually came to the conclusion that in a public arena the best way to make someon go away is to ignore them. The lack of response kills a person's motivation to disseminate her (or his) opinions. Thanks for saying what you have said. I have been offended far more by the writings of others than by those of yours.

Dave .. you would have scored more points had you apologized and stated that, YES, beginners are welcome here too ... and sat down.

Because they are welcome here

Encourage them to add to, and take from, their images ... a little border here, a little flare there ... but it might take them a couple YEARS to do that ... but in the mean time, if it's you serving the refreshments at the get-togethers ... you WILL be expected to make sure their ice-tea has sugar enough for their taste, and that they've got cookies to take home to the little ones ... because they are not second class citizens

Rather than pick apart another's gallery .. I'll use myself as an example .. I invite you all to visit my gallery .. be sure to chat me up if you missed any .. ;o)

HERE

There are image in there that I would not post today (Batman, for example or Jumangi) ... and there are images that I'm dissappointed are gone.(They shall remain nameless)

Assuming your thumbs are set to twelve ... you'll find Hearts-a-Fire in the third row down ... That is the first image I post processed in Photoshop ... Everything prior to that is straight off the waffle iron .... WHY? ... because I wanted to share, to give back for all that I had taken .... and maybe that is in there somewhere in other people as well

Yes, there are "lackluster" fractals posted to the site .. just as there are uninspired photos, and overwrought labors of love ... but the person who posted them thought enough of them ... and YOU ... to share it

You say that seeing these "snapshot fractals" makes you almost want to stop trying to pursue mastering digital art ... that's just silly ... does a martial artist give up his goal because the six year olds just coming in can't break a board with their feet?

But I did cry when I read that

Andy pretty much explained my point rather perfectly; I guess I'm not intelligent enough to explain my point of view in a more clear way.

It's not the "Snapshot fractals" in the New images gallery that bother me so much, it's seeing them in the permanent galleries, and I for one think that getting an image in that gallery should be an honor. Anyone can whip up any ol' fractal straight from the waffle iron because it takes no time or effort -- atleast in my experiance of being a fractal artist.

Some agree, some disagree, can't change that. But what I would like to see change is people spending more time in their art.

Basically, what I mean is, for my days worth of work, it reaches the same level of honor that another image, which took no effort or time at all, reached. If all I had to do was Open Apophysis, and render the first image I saw or whatever, than why do all this work? Obviously because I enjoy it, but it still is work to me. I'm not trying to put anyone down exactly, just stating my feelings which I have no power over.

I usually don't have time to participate in the dialogs happening at Caedes. My first posts on Caedes were photos and "snapshot fractals." However, other members here helped me along with ideas and software, and my images have progressed a ways now (and hopefully even better). So, like Keith was focusing on, I'm glad I wasn't shut out and that I was encouraged by having a few of my early ones make the permenant galleries. By the way, I've not taken offense at your comments. It's been an interesting discussion. I think people can and ought to share contrasting opinions frankly without becoming thin-skinned and uncivil with each other. I think it's perfectly OK to agree to disagree or differ, yet still respect one another's values and opinions.

I've not taken any offence at your comments. In the main part it has been the postings of others that I have found embarrassingly childish and offensive. It is good that you are now exploring an avenue of thought and refusing to be drawn into a slanging match. I agree with Regmar that it's probably best not to react to those individuals that allow themselves to get carried away.

Incidentally the idea that you have hurt the community with the expression of your opinions is ludicrous. You have every right to express your opinion and I agree with the basic points you are making.

It does hurt the site when younger artists are frightened off because they are afraid of cruel remarks.. Nathan has it right.. We are all entitled to our own opinion, and should not be offended by someone elses beilefs.. I do wish we could all just agree to disagree and go on our merry way.. This is a wonderful site and we all come vrom very diverse backgrounds.. We all see things differently..
