well, i think there's a couple of things here:

1) When i'm working on a project, I've been known to finesse it to death, and only see something I wish I had changed after I'm done. Sometimes you just get too close to it, and don't see where a simple change can make it better. People who are commenting here are leaving their honest opinions to be taken for consideration, and hopefully help an artist improve their work to a next level.

2) Have I been upset or disagreed with comments left on the few images I've posted? Sure, but that comes with posting them in a public forum. I've left myself open to hearing that, and if I can't hear it, especially when contructively phrased, then I shouldn't be posting here. My choice as an artist is to decide whether I want to change something because somebody's given me a new idea or viewpoint, especially in a medium as flexible as digital art where pieces can be moved around or photos can be touched up.

3) This is a forum not an admiration society, that means the free and open exchange of ideas. While comments do need to be phrased constructively, if everybody only commented "ooh, I like that" or "great work", sure, it would make you feel nice, but it wouldn't be very useful in refining a vision or helping to exchange ideas. I appreciate the time that people have taken to consider my images, and leave their opinions even when I disagree with them.

that's my 2 cents (ok so maybe it was like 68 cents, someday I'll learn how to cut down the number or words)

Personally, I have never heard negative feedback...and I will be the first to say I am not nearly as talented as most on this site. If someone tells me to try this or that, I know they are not saying to be bitchy, rather to help further me, and I welcome it. Yes sometimes as an artist, you like things just as they are and someone may comment and it can be taken personally. That being said, I cannot recall a comment on anything here, that hasn't been positive. Someone will say this looks really good, I can see you've been practicing, maybe if you try using this program instead you'll get this result...blah blah blah...to me I find it quite helpful. I doubt that I will ever be as talented as many here, so when they bother to look at something I did, and they tell me its really good, but I can make it better by doing this...I appreciate it. I want to make my next one better than my last one, and I cannot do that if I refuse to listen to suggestions of others who have "been there and done that"

Look to the Future, Remeber the Past, but Live in the Present, and Never forget to tell those you love "I Love You", you may not get another chance.

The aim of Caedes is to both provide a place where you can share your artistic endeavours with other people and go to learn something new. Every photo is definitely not art, there is a huge difference between a snapshot and a good photo. Many of us have a lot to learn from the other more talented people on the site. Don't take the comments as a "personal attack". Rather take it as an opportunity to learn from someone with more experience.

Ditto on most of the above. I've seen some uncalled comments once in a while, but I've never felt I ever got a really bad one myself. The comments I really look for and appreciate are the few that are critical and give true input on the work. I'm aware of that I can be seen as too critical in some respects with my comments from time to time, but I almost always take the time to say that it's only my personal thoughts and that I don't mind if you disagree with the points I make. What would be the point with all of this if no one gave any feedback to anyone?

If you don't want critique or suggestions on your artwork, or even better, if you don't even want to hear of such at all even on others stuff like you say... That makes for a pretty simple solution... Just sell your computer, quit whatever you are doing and move to a remote place and start feeding of roots, berries and lemmings. I'm not being that sarcastic... ^_^ In my days of youth that was my personal idea of a good life. (I'm not even kidding a little! :P) Of course, I didn't follow up on it. I just liked the thought of it. People tend to not survive like that unfortunately. But it's a sure way not to get worked up about stuff on the internet at least.

Well personally, I wouldn't have stuck around here for long if noone had given me suggestions on my submissions, be they photograph or CGI or whatever... that was sort of the point... it's helped me improve quite a bit (I hope) and I feel I have an obligation to try and do the same for others, if I can.

Agree with the boss, +Samatar. I want good, bad and ugly (if so desirved) on anything I would post. I'm no artist, that's for sure, and myself, have just been into photography and making those fractal thingys only a couple months...so I like hearing what people have to say in order to hopefully improve (if that's the case). Dang that was a long winded sentence...sorry. :)

ok well,i am pleased that so many responded so quickly.
seems to me that everyone thiks the same way(improvement and things like this).useful advice and remove this are a bit different to me.let me give you an example.sunset shot, bad quality and a lot of powerlines(i wasn t able to find the picture that i am talking about).somebody says it s a good photo but power lines should be removed.fine lets remove power lines and what do we have -red sky, some red clouds and the black land--we got photo like hundreds of other sunset pics.
ok i got anotherone-sea and mountains on the horizon but there is a rooftop and street lightning device right in front of all the beauty.person who made this ,agrees to take a new shot,to make original work look ordinary.

That is your opinion and you are certainly entitled to it. Others have given their opinion, and is the choice of the artist to decide whether they have been given good advice, or if somebody has missed the intent of their vision.

Its up to the artist whether they try the suggestion or not, just because someone has suggested something as you said "remove the power lines", that doesnt mean that the artist "should" do that, its only personal preference of the person who suggested it, its like borders, some people love them, others will say "remove the border its much better", that is their preference, but.. when a person suggests something like eg, "it's too grainy try running it through neat image to make it clearer", that is a technical suggestion, they are suggesting that to give you a tip on how to improve your standard of work, and I know most people on here would try it, because they want to improve their skills, I suggest a lot of things on fractal work eg. try increasing the shadow and gamma to get rid of grain.. I have never once had anyone NOT try it. Its a great place to learn techniques for the very skilled artists here and some professional photographers who know what they are talking about, and the only way to learn is for people to suggest things, they are not being "picky", they just want to help improve... When I came on Caedes I only took snapshots, but with all the suggestions of things like "if you cropped some of this off, or take the shot more to the left/right, or if you increased the contrast" I would still be taking snapshots, and I have had pics that have had powerlines in it, but when I removed them it brought the image I wanted to show more into focus.. the powerline detract from the beauty of the image, so what if there are 1000's of sunsets, each one is different, and much more beautiful to see the full image without the distraction of lines...
But then again.. thats only my suggestion, my opinion, my preference..... =)
