i decided to experiment and make a for profit website. I just finished it. Please check it out and tell me what you think. All criticism and comments will not only be taken into consideration but GREATLY appreciated. I dont really have anyone else to look at it.
The link for now is http://prophoto.frih.net
Streamline the name, if possible .. ProPhoto.net is gooder than .. prophoto.frih.net
I would create a fast loading display (anim GIF or flash) of a photo being transformed .. ie portrait to dreamy soft focus .. and any other "examples" you offer (with out slowing the page loading)
Quote:When emailing or uploading make sure to give important information like your account name, and the services requested for each image
make your upload process "bullet proof" .. a form for each image .. I want this sepia toned .. etc
Looks pretty good so far. I like that the site is simple and straightforward. You could touch up the grammer a bit, let me know if you want assistance.
thanks for the suggestions, please do not hesitate to point out spelling and grammer errors, i would appreciate it. Thanks for the comments keifer, my mailer actually does include account name, etc you should test it out, there is also a part of the image upload form that allows you to put specific details about what you want done to the image. Please feel free to try it out, just put when you upload an image that your are so and so from caedes.net testing out the site, i will get the idea. The main page is fairly streamline, the logo is 6k and the images at the bottom of the page range from 10-25k. The flash animation in the middle is 619k tho :-/ i guess that is the problem you noticed. Luckily flash works by dynamically sending to the client one part of the animation at a time, so you should only have to download a 100k or so at a time before you start actually seeing the animation. This may still prove sluggish for dial up users, i'll look into some compresssion, animated gif may prove a better alternative. Thanks for the comments.
I also havent purchased a domain name yet. www.prophoto.com was taken, i'll prolly go with prophoto.net. but atm i'm poor, gimmie a few weeks for that :)
OK .. I'm on dial-up and never saw the animated dealie .. I had to refresh the page to get the bottom three images to show up the first time .. but my connection is bad and I hammer it for every byte I can
I'm back there now and the flash hasn't shown up .. maybe it's my flash player .. ;o)
A suggestion ... another form of payment, hmm, maybe that PayPal thingy?
Not sure of the costs associated on your end, but, it does seem to be a preferred and better known method. Options ... always a good thing in my books. And to make your life that little bit easier ... go here to see for yourself PayPal.
Site is clean and presentable and quite easy to navigate. Build up the portfolio to cover some more possibilities. Good luck. :o)
p.s. The preceeding is not an endorsement of any kind, just the product of another eager caedesian spiders' mind. :oP
I have a quick cut and paste edit of your front page text below. Changes are small but just make the grammer more consistent I think. I suggest you change the word "photo" (where marked) to a different words, like shot or snapshot or similar, just to avoid using "your photos" twice in consecutive sentences.

i just realized what u meant purmusic, i need to put on the get started page that you can use a paypal account to pay for services as well as a major credit card. that will also be changed tonight. i think i may be able to get that front page animation down to 100k from 600k as well. thanks again guys
both the main page and the geting started page were changed thx to Sam and Les' sugesstions. still working on compressing that flash for the dial up users. I still care about u guys too :-p
Well, ahem ... Sam does live in Australia ... think that tells you something. What that something is, I am not sure. :oP
But ... there is a spelling error under:
Photo Enhancement
Redeye, color casts, faded, grainy, blurred, desaturated, no matter what the annoyance, your picturess can be repaired with photo enhancement. Make your captures brilliant and striking!
And not to inundate you with suggestions ... under this same heading ... how do you feel about taking a more pedestrian approach to your wording. I am not sure how many would understand "desaturated" or "colour casts." Here, I guess it would depend on your target group. Hmm, maybe a two parter, addressing those more in the know ... semi-professionals, hobbyists that may not have access to some of your graphics editing software and then, as I said, the more typical photographer that underexposes, overexposes, etc. .
Hey there you go ... a blurp on the the software you use. Maybe get some co-op stuff happening with those same companies that produce the software that you use. I don't know, add a link to their sites, get some free stuff, whatever. Just a thought ... er, thoughts ... thoughts. :o)
lol..its just a project. i dont want to make the site a full time job, if it were by some miracle to get popular i would prolly get some help in running it, but i dont expect that to happen. thanks for pointing out the spelling error. i agree that this site would prolly be targetted towards the less knowledgable because the more knowledable would simply do it themselves. but the less knowledgable are also impressed by terminology they dont understand :-p
tonight i'm going to try and compress that animation and also make the bottom links clickable to open up popups that show a larger version of the before/after images. you cant even really tell that the photorestoration image was changed
btw, it would be nice if one of the caedes.net members would submit an image for me to work on. just put in the form when submitting the image that yur from caedes testing, u wont have to buy the image, but i'll rework it and upload it to test the process.

Noob... I think you mustn't have noticed, but changing "your photos" was only one suggestion. There were a few other changes in that text I put in my second to last post. That's why I didn't think you had changed anything.
