Im not exactly new at this site, i have a 21 image gallery which is all CG stuff, but im wondering whether Caedes is more a photography based site rather than a CG site. Is this true?

Caedes.net has always been a little of everything... The earliest I remember, caedes himself had many of the original works, digital art and fractals, and many others were public domain from around the web. As the user gallery started to open, many talented photographers showed up, and digital art seemed to take a back seat. There had been talk of the site going photography-only for a little while... but thankfully that never panned out. More recently, many talented digital artisans have shown up, and digital seems to have gained at least even, if not greater numbers than photos.
Whatever you use to make your wallpapers, you are welcome here.

^^A very good synopsis xentrik.

I think the realy question is whether the site is just for wallpapers or not. I think the wallpaper medium is rather limiting from an artisti standpoint. I would like to open the field up to print-oriented works as well.

:ooooooh: :o, now thats a direction that i would love to see this site take. Grim & I have been looking into printing some of our works for sale here in uk but to open up online services would be such a treat.....getting excited thing about the idea. it would be a great development as I find that creating wallpapers is fun & bcoz of it i have learnt much but i feel that i want to apply it so we can all maybe benefit from visitors & ourselves buying prints from this site....i would imagine that would require a big step up & a lot of initial financial backing.
I'm willing to bet that 99%(atleast) of contributors would love to have their works on sale online. & all who contribute here are creators & would love that opportunity methinks. if it works out part of the funding can go into the smooth running of this wonderful site. i for one am all in ffor doing that & supporting caedes.net. c'mon whos with me?

Sounds like a nice idea to me. Caedes has offered a chance for people like me who are just trying to learn how to do some of the things you pros have been doing for a while. Although I don't have anything suitable for print, I see pictures every day that I wish I could frame and hang. What a great contribution that would make to this site.

As a fellow-beginner, I agree 100% with every word that Sally said. That's a great idea, Avi, and I only hope the implementation of it would be feasible.

Oh my goodness....I was just talking about this very thing with my husband. It is indeed very limiting to work with specific sizes. I often want my work to go beyond that but, like Avi, am grateful that I even had a way for others to look at my work and have learned a great deal. I have also thought about prints and would love to take what I like of others and myself included and actually put it up on my wall. This is a great site filled with so many talented artists. I think this is a wonderful idea. I get excited thinking about it.
Even if prints are not an option just allowing us to go beyond wallpapers would be great.

I think what Mr.Caedes is trying to say is a gallery strictly for no-wallpaper sized images. Instead of the regular 4:3 ratio we could start seeing images of all sizes. I love making wallpapers as well and it is an art in itself trying to find the right picture that will balance out in the 4:3 ratio. But, there have been many shots that I've held back because of that! One of mine that comes to mind that was a portrait orientation is "Screen Wash". That image only amounts to 1/3 of the center...rest is black fill;-) I have others here as well that are filled by cloning the empty area from the original. Panoramas would also be another area to fill!

As far as the sale of prints online, it would be an interesting proposition! I believe this would also attract more pro-ams to the site. This should be a very interesting thread to follow for days to come!

Thanks Avi, first of all, for bringing this to my attention. I would really love to be able to sell my photos. While this is a big challenge for anyone to tackle, I think it would be a lot of fun. This site has given me an opportunity to get constructive criticism from talented fellow artists, which is a valuable resource. I don't know how to set it up, however. Setting up printing requires a real location in the real world, which is not something I think the Caedes community has had to tackle before, with the exception of the servers for the site. I am all for it, but it is a big task. And finally, I am in the US, so I would want to be able to get things for myself too!

This in many ways is a great idea. I my self am working on my website as a photographer. Have offered artist and photographers the chance to put their work there if interested later down the line.
My sight will be dedicated to my photography and the work of many friends who are photographers & Graphics artists for there contribution or a small fee for hosting through the sight.
I do think that Caedes would benefit in many ways from this, but in many ways if Caedes does consider this type venture, it would be opening a whole new can of worms. There are legal and competitive aspects to consider. I fear the sight would lose it’s originality.
I feel that the site should offer referrals to the artist personal sites for a nominal fee. This not only would promote the artist but also bring income in for the site and Caedes. Lets face it there is no other sight that offers the availability of images that Caedes does with out cost and I feel that this is something unusual and rare.. Try to find this any where, I also fell that we just by posting an email and going as far as a website address benefit. Don’t get me wrong I’m for profit. I just don’t want to see the site lose its uniqueness. It’s a fun sight.
I feel that the sight should charge for email or website forwarding of an interested party
and leave personal discussion for the members. Avoiding the profit dilemma of this sight being only used as a channel for the artist. This site can be a conduit at a small profit or become large profit machine and go the way of the dinosaur. In general people don’t want to pay. That’s why most sites limit the work to small JPG. To prevent copying the image and gaining a profit sometimes at enormous fees. I feel that if people are interested in selling their products they should pay a minimal fee for the channeling of the service.

My idea was to just allow people to upload images in any aspect ratio (like posters). They could then like to a site like daprints.com to sell the print. I certainly don't want to have to deal with the hassle of organizing such print making.

yeah i understand that, it was a momentary rant that i could not control. but i like prismmagic's idea about being a conduit, which in turn can support the site

it is an idea. much like the caedes poster. I dunno how much you make off those things, but selecting certain images from the site and making prints from them could turn into a revenue source.

I totally agree with Maine's comment. Since I am on this site, I dream to upload some 'vertical' photos, panoramas, ...
Jayed1987: My friend Frelu said to me he started to upload images since he saw many digital artists on the site!
Avi: It's not the role of caedes to market pictures, I think. But caedes.net can be a good 'springboard' for those which want it ...

I'm in it for the fun of creating and sharing my work with others and be part of an unusually friendly and creative community. It's all about creativity and not so much about what tools you work with I think.

I'm not intersted in selling my photos by the way. I may be a bit odd on this point but it just seems like too much trouble for me. Of course it would be fun to have my pieces hanging on someones wall. I'm gladly giving away printable files to those that want it and have done so allready. I guess I wouldn't do it for anyone and certainly not to everyone.

Of course it is apealing as an idea to make something out of our art that could benefit bout caedes and ourselves, but when you raise the stake you got to pay the prize sooner or later. (Sooner I'd asume in this case.) And a part of that prize could very well be the lovely atmosphere we got here. The less money it's about and the more just for fun the better IMHO. :)

For my personal interests I'm not particularly into other formats but I can see the point in letting people create more freely. I'd love to see Pierres and Darryls panoramas and Tracys creations in new formats. :) I'm sure many other artists here would make very fine use of such possibilities too.

u guys are right, all points taken onboard, it would very possibly turn sour. the flavour of caedes.net is truer as it is, somethings are best left untouched. it was tangental rant really without a second thought. to be honest with u i dont much like the commercial thing either but i gota wee bit carried away with the thought...:: )
