I’ve posted a few pics recently and have incorporated the “copyright logo” along with my name and year. I’ve seen several other people doing this also and wanted to get opinions about it. I know once my pic is clicked or my flame rendered it’s automatically copyrighted. I enjoy posting stuff so people can use them as desktop wallpapers and wondered if the copyright logo detracts someone from maybe using it as desktop wallpaper. I know the image is already copyrighted even without the markings, and I know having the logo on the piece still doesn’t preclude someone from using it in a way I didn’t intend. I try to put the logo small and out of the way, but just wanted to know if it makes a person hesitate to use it as desktop wallpaper or if you think it is a distraction to the piece.
I try to make my logos as unobtrusive as I can, firstly because I think people are less likely to remove it if it's subtle, and secondly even if it doesn't stand out it's still proof that the image is mine. I am not very concerned when my images (the ones with logos on them, I mean) turn up on other sites without my permission, becuase the person is easily able to see I made it. I think it helps that I put my web address on it becuase that makes it easier for people to find out more about who really made the image.
I get complaints occassionally, but they are usually simply that the person would "prefer the image without it". I don't think it stops anyone from using it, and even if it does in my mind it is worth it becsuae of the peace of mind it gives me.
I feel the need to sign my work these days .. I didn't at first ..
I try to keep it small and unobtrusive .. fade it out to 60 - 80 opacity, usually .. it's usually in the bottom left corner .. and, if the person's screen resolution is correct it will be under the task bar (on a WIN system)
I'm considering OTHER methods .. hiding several .. etc
I used to dislike seeing them, but was okay as long as it was subtle. Having seen the rips going around, I'm actually happy to see them now on other people's work and I'll be putting one on my own going forward.
