When I first joined Caedes [April 06] I never had any trouble voting on the New Images that I'd downloaded and commented on.

However, in the last 2 or 3 weeks, whenever I download, comment on and then try to vote [i.e. choose a number between 1 an 10 and click on 'Vote'] I get redirected to the How To Vote page.

I've read this page until I'm blue in the face but for the life of me, I can't make out why I cannot vote. I comment regularly on new work in my Friends list, download and comment on 'Subscription Requests', so WHY oh why can I not vote?????

PLEASE will someone put me out of my misery and tell me what I'm doing wrong, so I can overcome this problem and get back to regularly contributing my votes.

THANK YOU in anticipation of any kind soul who can throw some light on my problem.

I've been to Voting Booth - I don't want to vote for the waterfall picture! I want to vote for a poster's New Image that I've just downloaded and commented on.

PLEASE - in one lucid paragraph, written for a bear-of-little-brain: how do I place a vote?

PS: Perhaps you could copy-&-paste the instructions I'm obviously overlooking.

Selective voting was removed months ago when the voting booth was introduced. Any votes you've given on images since than haven't counted. Only votes cast in the random voting booth have had any value. Now the selective voting function has been completely disabled.

The answer to your question is that you may not vote selectively. The reason the random voting booth was introduced was to make the system fairer and ensure votes are distributed more evenly between images. If you want more information or history go through the forums (including the elephant graveyard), there are several very lengthy discussions on the subject.

The only voting taking place on Caedes is done in the voting booth .. the old system is what you were using all this time and has been, essentially, unplugged since september of last year when the voting system changed .. votes were still tracked from the image pages .. but were not factored in to the c-index ... this was done, amid much hoopla, in order to try and achieve a fairer, more accurate score .. and kill the vote rigging and the friends and family effect that the other was prone to

It's the aforementioned "hoopla" that gets these topics closed, as the one I linked you to .. I suggest you read it when you get a chance

SelectiveVoting .. (*hopefully this link will show you the votes on your images, and not mine*)

this is a display of the "selective votes" cast on your images up to the point that the feature was removed ... compare the "theoretical" c-indexes to the actual c-index score received in the voting booth

generally speaking .. due to the fact that this score is derived from friends and well-wishers .. the scores are usually higher than the random voting in the booth

The Selective Voting thread was extremely helpful and it also answered several other questions I'd thought about but didn't know who (or how) to ask.

I'm delighted to say I've finally gotten behind that darned waterfall in The Voting Booth and succeeded in casting quite a few votes.
