Some people think that the car you drive tells the world about you like a first impression. Would you choose the realtor who drives the Mercedes or a Ford? Does your car reflect who you are or more likely your budget? If money wasnt the issue, is there a limit on what you would spend on a car? Did you ever get someone to like you or have them not like you based upon the car that you drove?
6 cylinder, older, white family sedan. Chip packets constantly breeding in the rear section, little post it notes saying "petrol" and "soccer training" on the dash. Inside of windscreen somewhat smeary from time to time, outside unwashed (proudly, we are in drought and there are water restrictions).
I drive a mini van, and I beleive that people do look at me and judge me because of it. I have friends with kids who say they wouldnt be caught dead owning a mini van, and I think it is just because of the label that comes with it. I drive a mini van because i have kids and love the extra room, not because Im an old lady, or conservative, or anything that goes along with what people think of others who drive mini vans.
I don’t think the car makes the person. But I think it makes people think differently of you, then who you really are. For example if a man owns a 200.000 dolor sports car the women will think he lacking in something and is trying to make up for it or has an ego problem. They just can’t think that he loves fast cars and can just afford it.
No, I would wonder what he does for a living and where can I get a job like that. :oP
I drive a red Chevy Beretta, and I'm not sure if I'm judged my by car or by the fact that I'm a girl (and I look younger than my age). I went to the car wash (a couple years after my first time at one) and the older guy that worked there said, "Do you know how to work it?"
you can have a porsche carerra and be flat broke living at home with mom and dad but appearing to have the good life. The bottom line is if the bank account was gone, a fire came and burnt down the house and destroyed all the materialistic goodies, would you still stay? That is true love.
God, I hope your car doesnt reflect who you are as I drive a Smart ForTwo which doesnt exactly show me in a good light other than to say it was bought as a marketing tool for my company as opposed to a lifestyle choice. In my defense, the lease contract is up soon and it's history - practical car as it is; I'm a little tired of having near death experiences in it every time I enter the rush hour slog to or from work.
Prism, I was the one obviously that mentioned love and it was in reference to how the car that you drive should not dictate who the person is and their value. We are talking about cars. You stated and image and one's self. I am not off track. It's nice to see that you capitalize Love. I guess it really has an important priority with you. PhilcUK , please tell me what a Smart For Two is. I have never heard of one. You bring up a good point in regards to company cars vs. your own car that you drive by choice of financial necessity. Perhaps you might want to tell me about one of your vehicular escapedes in this car.
I have a license, and a Honda Accord, but dont drive much because I enjoy biking much more. I have a Trek, and a Diamondback. So I guess the answer for me is no, my car dasnt tell who I am, but my bikes do!
You probably are much healthier because of the exercise. Your bikes tell me that you take care of yourself and enjoy your free time. You must like the outdoors.
Your psychic!
Yeah I live in Seattle. One of the biggest biking cities, so its a big deal here. Your right, I do enjoy my free time, or what little I get with school and all.
I drive a big van.
Have too large a clan.
Not talk of the time.
It's Econoline.
Sure I have that pang.
A suped up Mustang.
Cherry red, white lid.
A desire well hid.
You see all too soon,
They'll leave the cacoon.
Flying far away.
Then I'm sure I'll say.
I wish my old van,
Still full of my clan,
Was riding with me
This mustang's empty. ;(
I love this. You are very creative. Empty Nest Syndrome. Birds fly away but they return and it's nice to know this time it's because they want to and not because if they don't come home they will be grounded. I am told the glass table tops no longer have finger prints on them and the phone is ringing alot less and it's only for you. The mail is less and you can put something somewhere and it stays there. The food lasts longer and so does the toilet paper. BUT...some people would give anything to hear those noises again and wipe those snotty little noses.
I drive a 2002 Volkswagen Passat (with heated leather seats -thank you very much)
So what does that say about me? ;-)
I'm actually car shopping as of late. Top of the list right now is the Mazda 3 hatchback, Toyota Matrix, Saturn Vue, and Scion Xb.
Any of these vehicles would be considered a "downgrade" by my coworkers who are basing their judgement on price. I'm basing my judgement on price vs. value vs. comfort vs. handling vs. style vs... etc. :-) I'm a sensible guy, I know I make good decisions.
As for what people think about me? Sure, I could spend my time analyzing what people think about me and then try to influence their thinking by changing my behaviors, property, appearance, etc. But then I wouldn't be an individual having my own expressions... I would be letting my individuality be shaped by others' perceptions. I don't think that's healthy...
I just don't worry about it and go on my merry way. :-)
Cheers,
Gabe
I own a Acura 2.5 TL, but don't drive it too often. To get to & from work, I drive my company provided pickup truck (Ford Ranger). To get around the city, I usually take the subway, bus, or taxi. I'm actually thinking of getting another car - probably a Volvo S80 or an Audi A6 station wagon (I don't have any kids to haul around, but find it to be a practical vehicle). What does this say about me? Probably that I like to buy things I don't need (I definitely don't need a 2nd vehicle considering I don't drive my existing car that often). You only live once, so why take your money to the grave?
An expensive car is really not a true indicator if someone is rich or not. Someone may live at home with mom and dad and spend every dime on their car and not have any other money but look like the image of having money. Some of the wealthiest people have basic transportation cars. Unless they are in business like real estate where the car is for an image to show that they are good at the business or they could not have a car like that..I chose not to be patriotic and accept the mediocracy of Ford..it is not my fautl that this country makes poor vehicles Ill wave my flag while I drive my Honda

I own a Dodge Caravan...and I have blue hair. I do not look like I should be driving that van. LOL! I have four kids and was forced to buy a van. I'd really like to own a Karmann Ghia...navy blue...convertable...with a very large engine. lol....yeah, that would be nice.
Actually I am looking at purchasing a new car in a few months (same time I am getting the new camera...) At the moment I am considering a Peageot 307 CC. I am not sure yet though. The only thing I really want is for it to be a convertible which limits the choice fairly severly. Initially I was looking at a Saab but I think they are a bit too expensive (about $20,000 AU more than the Peageot).
Currently I have a Suzuki X90, which is basically a 2 seater version of the Vitara.I like to have something a bit different from most other people... I guess that does say something about me.
I have a battered 1984 Cherokee Chief 4 cylinder with fading red paint. The old hoss looks every single one of the 207,000 miles on the odometer, and I dare not drive over 50 miles per hour or further than ten miles for fear of something falling off. I have placed a number of bullet hole decals on the doors and rear cargo hatch which, along with several large rust spots, really give the vehicle that down home Alabama look.
The car's name is Rupert, and he serves me well in blizzards, getting me around town when most others fear to venture forth.
I cant count how many times I've wanted to put bullet holes into my husbands 64 VW Bug....its name is Lennon....I hated that car. Took so much money out of me...but, it is his "love" so I allowed it to survive. But, the next time that thing sits in my drive begging for money to live...I'm puttin it out of its misery....for good. And, I will take great joy in doing it. :D However, I might have to kill my husband along with it. heehee!
If my car reflects who I am that would be very interesting. I keep the inside of my car neat and tidy--I leave nothing out out of place. However, the outside of my car could always use a good washing. So does this mean I value what is on the inside more than the outside?
It is a question. In my opinion regarding a human, the inside is always more important than the outside presentation. Sometimes impressions are not true of the person. Of course, most people don't get to know who we are if they dont get past the first impression and the desire then to know the person further. In a car, it is more important, that the engine and important parts are working, then if the car is shiny. As a person, if the insides are right, the outside will be shining!!
Personally i love cars and i do agree with kim that cars do tell peaple apart, like a first impression.
Lamborghinis: mostly for peaple who want to show of there money (usually, some but very few are quite good peaple)
Toyota: for the average person. A great all round car and peaple won't think less of you if you have one
Mazda: same with toyota, nice car
Lotus: For the person who has money but wants to be subtle about it
Volkswagon: now why would someone want one of these unless your a female (they come with a miniture flower pot on the dash!!!). personally i think the beetles are disgusting.
Porsche: usually for peaple who are not particulary rich but just want others to know they drive a porsche.
BMW: i don't like Beemers, but some do and i dont blame them, BMW know how to make cars
Mercedes: Extremely good cars, powerful, reasonably good loking and most of all fast. Mainly for peaple who like that sort of thing
Honda: These are great cars and i would buy one instantly, they are like mercs but more common and cheaper
Subaru: These are okay cars if i had the choice between this or a honda, i would choose the honda. I don't like the new subaru impreza
Audi: This is probably the more quiet, not as fast, calmer version of the mercedes, but it is a good car and i would recommend buying one over the honda or any other Japanese cars
Jaguar: Aah yes the nice british car that has quite recently realeased a very good car, some of you may have heard of it and it has kinda been out for some time, its the XF. These cars are nice but still a little outdated
Maybach: Big, expensive, heavy but very comfortable, if you have the money it isn't really worth getting it if you like driving, its more the type of car you use a chauffeur with.
Hope you like this guide thing and if you do want more info about others a i have not mentioned please ask.
Be thankful YOU HAVE A CAR...
My kids will not get a car, hand-me-down or otherwise unless they maintain high grades and work to pay for insurance and maintenance. They have 8 years to go still until they can drive, but that will be the agreement if they want wheels. I'm a hard-ass about that. So my twins can agree, or walk.
I have a Ford Five Hundred. Built on a Volvo frame, biggest trunk, many safety features, and all the bells and whistles...except for an ass warmer (I really wanted seats that warm my butt at the touch of a button).
Well i still have a few years before i can drive and i am already looking at cars to buy on the internet and in the newspaper. Is there something wrong with me???
