This was the Chicago Daily Tribune headline on November 3, 1948 following the 1948 Presidential Election in the United States. Thomas E. Dewey, New York Governor, was heavily favored and Harry S. Truman's win was considered a major upset. Truman had a lot of fun displaying this front page on the train trip from his home in Independence, Missouri to Washington, D.C.

Truman was staying at the Elms Hotel and Spa in Excelsior Springs, Missouri the night of the election. That is where I took this picture during a job related meeting being held there. Pictured is Dr. Niel Johnson, a Truman impersonator. This will be my entry into the current History contest.

I bet Dewey didn't have a good day after waking up. One of the great political stunners in our history.

A rare picture and a very good entry for the contest Tick. How a newspaper can print such headline is beyond my imagination.

---Thomas E. Dewey, New York Governor, was heavily favored and Harry S. Truman's win was considered a major upset---

Owd Fella Tick (OFT), without giving any opinion from my side, the history has repeated itself actually in 2016,with the difference that the Republicans have won the 2016 election.

Good entry for the current History contest.
Wish you Good Luck with it!

A classic of political history, here in America, but this is a version Ive never seen before, instead always seeing the one in which Truman is at a large venue, holding the newspaper over his head. Then, reading your post, I understand why Ive never seen it. A terrific recreation and so lucky for you to be there at the right time.
