Cal Smith was a country singer and he won the award for 1974 Song of the Year from both the Academy of Country Music and the Country Music Association. You can listen to the song Country Bumpkin here. You can also read about Cal Smith here.

I was fortunate enough to meet Cal Smith (Calvin Grant Shofner) in the early 1990's. I was a Real Estate Agent at the Lake of the Ozarks. He was looking for a home for his family and also a theater where he could perform. I helped him and spent many days showing him various properties. After he found his theater, I was able to watch as he auditioned musicians and singers to participate in his show. That was quite enjoyable. Redneck Heaven you might say. His opening night was quite an experience. I took the photo's at one of his shows.

He moved to the Branson area after a year at the Ozarks and I returned to my hometown. My late father also got to know him and his family. They spend many an hour exchanging stories. My father passed away in 2004 and Cal died in 2013. To say the memories of that time in my life were exceptional would be an understatement. I could reminiscence much longer about that year, but I will close with another of Cal's wonderful songs.
I Just Came Home To Count The Memories.

My submission for SNATM

Frame is from some free frames I received in a CD from Digital Photography. Album Cover can be found here.

Beautiful capture and nice story, Tick. I love country music, but pity, it's not very popular in my country.

Owd Fella Tick (OFT),
your post (with a great narrative!) is a perfect representation of this SNATM-theme (🎥).
I still love the music of the late Cal Smith (✝ October 10th, 2013). My personal favorites are:
-It's All Over But The Crying (cover, original written and recorded in 1968 by Hank Williams Jr.),
-I Just Came Home To Count The Memories (1977), and
-It's Time to Pay the Fiddler (1975).

Thanks for bringing a nostalgic feeling and good memories. Very well done.
Thanks for that, S+F, 👍 !
