Poppy Ted was my paternal grandfather and he died while I was stationed in Italy in 1963. He was born in 1891 and his given name was Joseph Lindsey Tenson Morgan. He was the tenth son, so that's why Tenson was added. Most people called him Ted, but we just called him Poppy Ted. He was a sawyer by trade and lost two fingers on his right hand in the saw mill. He sawed lumber for many houses and barns in the area that are still standing. He did this during the depression. Many times he never got paid but it didn't stop him from helping provide shelter for people and animals. He was a very kind man. I often wonder what he would think about the world today.

This is also a tribute to Rob-rvdb who has been absent from the site for quite a while. He impressed me very much with his colorizations of old black and white photos. This photo of Poppy Ted was originally black and white. I tried adding color to it and this is how it turned out. I even sent it to Rob after I was finished. He was nice enough to say it looked good. I hope Rob is doing well during these troubling times and wish him the best. I also wish all of you the best.

Tick, this is the honest to good truth, your grandfather looks like he could have been my track/cross country coach's brother. They look so much a like. I wish I had a picture of him to share with you.

You did a very good job on the colorization. I have no idea on how to do it and admire the work those of you who do this work have done.

My goodness Tick, you did a great job of colorization. My dad was born in 1921 and also went through those hard times. My dad lost his toes while logging and being the rugged man he was sewed them back on by himself. I like that those people at that time that their word was there bond.

Owd Fellow Tick (OFT), your grandfather's pictures (both the B&W and the colorized version) reminds me of mine (on father's side). He was born in 1899 and was a seaman. I received my love and respect for the sea from him. He didn't say two words, if he could say something with only one word. His decisiveness and perseverance were examples to me.
It's good that you can revive the memories of your grandfather Poppy Ted this way. Be proud of those who helped you with your raising and education. I suppose that you, like me, have passed on his life story to your children as an example.

PS: your colorization work is a tribute to Rob indeed. The last thing that I've heard from him was that he was confronted with a tragic situation. I hope he's doing well now, and wish him all the best.

The coloring looks excellent because It looks like an original. Your dad was a truly hard working man. My father was born in 1892. He died in 1974 . He was a successful lawyer.
