Cologne Cathedral detail. This is the first in a series I will post from a recent trip down the Rhine. I finally got to Europe after 63 years. This cathedral is truly magnificent and affectionately called "the Dom" by Cologne's residents (I'm told). The building is constantly under repair, as demonstrated by the scaffolding on the right. It is difficult to take a picture without getting at least SOME construction work in the frame.

Ah i understand why this is such a close view of this catherdral now that i see the above comment. Its always very difficult to get a good image compositionally when you cant get far enough away from it! Similar problems can be experienced when trying to shoot the Trevi Fountain in Rome! I think you have done a really good job in that case. To improve still further i would be inclined to crop out the details to either side of the main doorway and change the levels so that the contrast is up and the image is darker to bring out more of the detail in the astounding architechture! Well done on a difficult capture!

He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the almighty. I will say of the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God in whom i trust". Psalm 91: 1 and 2
