I think I've only seen these a couple of times in my life time. This one was on my front porch.

Hey, this is an alien moth! They wander about in space. Seriously Connie a rare find and a beautiful capture of it.

Connie, I couldn't determine on your fine capture how big this Luna Moth is, but Wiki was helpful to me and says that it has a wingspan of about 114 millimeters (14.5 inch). Once I was able to capture this one, which had a wingspan of 70 - 80 millimeters (2.8 - 3.1 inch). It was already impressive to me, but compared with the, by you captured Luna Moth, it was a tiny fellow, lol.
Perfectly seen and captured, my friend!

It's hard to believe but I read that the adult Luna Moth does not have a mouth, which is why they only live about a week.

I have never seen one of these, but your capture is perfect. You can see every detail, and what a beautiful colour too. The dark background makes it stand out perfectly. Well done!

A nice capture of the moth, Connie. Nice details and colours in the photo. I don't think I've seen them around here. The last thing I need is a giant moth eating the clothes off me as I attempt to snap a photo of it. :)

Great subject caught well. Sometimes butterflies can just sit still and behave themselves when being photographed. Others just disappear. Good shot!
