I really liked the way this looked against the dark background. It almost looks like it is floating in air. I think it was just getting ready to close for the night...taken late afternoon. Comments/critique welcome!!

Perfect shot Connie. Good depth (I feel that I can touch it), sharp focus and a good composition in this photo.

Contrasting tones are really good here...the lightness against the darkness works a treat!...
the detail on the bloom is very good too!

What a beautiful bloom Connie - and it stands out so well against the dark green background. Late afternoon is a good time to get this almost luminous quality that you have captured so expertly.

I am not familiar with this plant - it appears to be a type of hibiscus?.
The plant we call Rose of Sharon has yellow flowers and is also known as St Johns Wort or Evening Primrose. The closest we have to your Rose of Sharon we know as Mallow (Lavatera)

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

Rose of Sharon (Hibiscus syriacus) and Chinese hibiscus (Hibiscus rosa-sinensis) are cousins. Both are members of the mallow family, a large group of several hundred different plant species. While the flowers of rose of Sharon and Chinese hibiscus look similar, these plants are from different climates; one is temperate and the other tropical. So they thrive in different places.

I have not seen any Rose of Sharon blooming around here yet Connie but I really like this snow white against the dark background - I believe they are also related to hollyhocks.

Very pretty, and well composed. The fact that it's off-centre works for this, as the green depths behind act as more of a foil... if you know what I mean?

Wonderful scene, I agree the colors are dramatic and very inviting. Good shot. This image of nature gets the creative instincts flowing, I could easily see a truly lovely fabric being created using these particular colors. Bravo.
