V838 Monocerotis (V838 Mon) resembling "Starry Night"? I can't see the resemblance, but judge for yourself. Credit: NASA and The Hubble Heritage Team (AURA/STScI)

Well, Blargg... I take the time to get the full versions of the images, and convert them to desktop images. Why? Not because I want to give it off as my work or that I care for the C-index, but to make it easier to find for people that are looking for space wallpapers. If you check you can clearly see that I state that the image is from NASA, where else would I get images like this ESA?

very beautiful. imagine, something so beautiful so far away just out of our reach, when do u believe we would be ready for a travel to a distant solar system, as like polaris for instance. think what if there was life there and were just so close, but yet so far at the same time, weird huh?

I can see why people would think this looks fake, although no one was ever "there" to see it. They are so far away, it is amazing we can capture them at all with that kind of detail. Sorry Blargg that you dislike Crusader's upload, but if He hadn't of uploaded this, I would never even know this image existed. Thanks Crusader for sharing. :)

"The Hubble Space Telescope documents an outburst, called a light echo, from the red giant V838 Monocerotis. The star exploded in 2002, producing a burst of intense light which showed up surrounding clouds of dust. But unlike a nova, it did not lose its outer layers, which is highly unusual."
