If I may be bold here, hope you don't mind some thoughts ...
Thought initially, you could have adjusted the DOF a bit. The head of the ladybug is on the peripheral. Curious, as it has been mentioned that when it comes to macro photography ... some will stop down a series of shots.
That aside ... I think ... think, it is more a question of actual focal point and focus. A slight shift in camera position ... up (and possibly to the right as well) ... and I believe you would have captured the ladybug perfectly and in her entirety.
That is not to say that you are way off the mark. No, not at all. Just a subtle shift in camera position is my thought here.
Your composition is what first caught my eye and drew me in for a closer look. Again, I hope you don't mind some additional thoughts here ...
Not sure if you cropped an original photo, that said ... good that you offset the placement of the ladybug. Having done so, speaks to your knowledge of composition and visual dynamics within a frame.
Think ... think, again ... a slight shift, such that the ladybug ends up on one of the intersecting lines abiding by the simple rule of thirds composition would elevate your image here.
Annnnd ... again, you are almost spot on. Just a suggestion, that's all.
Putting an image where my words are above ... here is a quick rework and an extreme example, of sorts, of some edits and a further crop.
Here it is without the crop, essentially some Levels adjustment and boosting the red and yellow saturations.
For your consideration ... go here for Geometrical Compositional Guides, free download in regards to the templates available to use as gifs or within Photoshop as "Custom Shapes".
I found the above tutorial invaluable and did indeed use one of the templates in the rework of your image. Take what you will from it.
Allll that said ... yeah, a very nice shot Dimitri. And but of course, thank you for sharing this one with us.
p.s. If you are uncomfortable with the rework being posted to my imageshack account, just let me know ... and down it comes. I didn't intend to keep it up and it is private, just wanted to illustrate my words with a couple of images.
