I shot this with a Lumix FZ10K at full 12x zoom with no tripod, to test the Leica optical image stabilization. Excellent stability. I shot directly out the sliding glass door of our master bedroom (open). This is the back side of Mount Massive near Leadville Colorado. The ski town of Aspen lies down in the valley just beyond the first ridge in the picture.

I look at this scene everyday and I never realized how remarkable it is because I just can't see all that detail with my naked eye. That 12x zoom is awesome and the optical stablizer really keeps the image sharp at that extension. Thanks for the nice comments. I usually don't like plain old scenic shots like this, but something about the foreground made it special for me.

It's early August 2006. I've been looking at this huge mountain for nearly thirty years. This Sunday my son in law and I will attempt to climb to the summit. I understand it's 28 miles round trip...on foot of course, with a rise of 4,600 feet from the start of the climb. The thought terrifies me, but I simply have to conquer the beast.
