Italian emigrants to California brought the tradition of the buttero with them, where they called themselves cavalcanti. They brought with them skills in rounding up large herds of cattle, usage of the lasso, and horsemanship.

See that this Italian cowboy (buttero) has forgotten his pistols, lol.
Thanks for another wonderful 'cowboy' image.

So that's what they were called. Wonderful scenery all around this cowboy, I mean buttero. I wonder if they wear the cloth over their faces to avoid dust. Lots of great color in both of your images.

I am very familiar with Cavalcanti! I have many lasso's and some beautifully designed tack that they used here in the old west. Great image and stunning colors!

Last night I lay in bed looking up at the stars in the sky and I thought to myself, where the heck is the ceiling.

I see the horse doesn't like the rider hold his reins too tight, the horse is fighting the bit. Another wonderful image

More very nice work, Ed. Good detail in the shadows and some dramatic light on the landscape combine with some brilliant color to create a striking image.
