As can be seen by the fallen and split trunk that this tree had bad bones and was destined to never soar to great heights towering over the forest floor. Where it would have made a great platform for the squirrels to drop cones on the heads of unsuspecting hikers on the trail below. If you listen closely you can hear the weeping of the beaver that missed out on the chance to fell this mighty tree or the wail of the poor woodchuck that will now never know how much of this tree it could have thrown recklessly and wantonly about the wilderness had it chosen to do so.

Wow that's a very striking image Wendell - of course the ramifications of this tree's "bad bones" only you could write about!

The skeleton on the tree tells it all. We have some of these red wood trees in the gardens here and I am always impressed by them. Good shot and narrative Wendell. Let your imagination fly like a kite with the string parted!
