This will be my entry for the new contest. So,if you have been paying attention lately, you will see that the last two contest had no winners announced. Mimi has indicated that whatever algorithm "Caedes" uses it doesn't work when only 5 or 6 entries are in the contest. She didn't say how many images need to be posted before the algorithm works to produce voting outcomes but 5 or 6 pictures clearly does not work. I have been here about 15 years now and the contests have been erratic so I want to reach out and ask for your support. These can be very fun but we need more entries per contest:) We can do it:):) I have not been here as long as many others-but I can clearly see members fading away after many years of contributions. Let's keep it going for another 20 years okay???:):):)

Bruce, I appreciate your efforts to revive the periodic Caedes contest.
I myself stopped participating in the contest because I had the strong feeling that voting was no longer done in an objective but strategic way. I suppose I've sufficient knowledge of fine arts in general and photography in particular to know whether a contribution is good or not.
In the last contests in which I took part, from an artistic point of view, I could no longer identify with the result, even though it had come about in a democratic way. A feeling of déja-vu came over me. By this I mean the comparison with the previously defunct C-index phenomenon.
Again, I hope you can encourage many Caedes members to contribute to the contest. I wish you every success with that and with your wonderful capture too, Buddy!

EDIT: Bruce, I couldn't ignore your 'request', so I posted this contribution of mine!

If you think you can't accept something, try to change it. But if this doesn't work, don't be frustrated, but give it later another try. The one who perseveres wins! Please CLICK HERE to see my journal! Feel free to save my images or to add them to your favorites.

I can't understand this because the contests in April June & July had just 5 or 6 entries and all had winners announced so it certainly worked for them.
Maybe it is something that has only recently been instigated, or it is dependent on the number of votes received. (?)
Voting is still open for the last 2 contests that have not had winners announced so maybe get over there and vote everyone !

When the algorithm fails to work perhaps one of the mods could personally choose a winner to keep interest alive. It is quite sad to look back over earlier contests and see pages of entries, but also noticeable that many participants are no longer contributing members.

This is a very suitable entry for the current contest Bruce - and I shall also make an entry.

My thanks to all who leave comments for my work and to those of you who like one enough to make it a favourite. To touch just one person that way makes each image worthwhile. . . . . . . . . .. . . . "The question is not what you look at, but what you see" ~ Marcel Proust

This is a wonderful entry Bruce and I appreciate your efforts to keep things alive on Caedes - I'm rather landlocked where I live but I'll see if I can come up with a water entry.

How beautifully clear the lake water looks! I should be able to come up with something from my recent trip to the U.P. Thanks for the heads up. I like lyn, don't understand the current problem, since not many entries have been submitted. I will try and again thanks Bruce. I do agree with you, lets keep it going! tigs=^..^=

We had planned on traveling to the Lake Superior North Shore in September, perfect for this contest, along the eastern shore of Minnesota, but the rise in Covid infections and the time we felt we wanted to spend there has changed our plans. Despite our both having had Covid in January (and built up antibodies as a result), and were both fully vaccinated by mid-April, this Delta variant is proving quite deadly, even for the occasional full-vaxxer (we do not want to take the chance of infecting anyone else). Plus, I have a few backyard construction projects ongoing. So instead we are going to spend three days at two North Dakota lakes, kayaking, hiking, and photographing anything worthwhile. Unfortunately, we will not be heading out until a week after the ^Water^ contest closes for entries. Maybe I have something in my old bin that might work, possibly even the one I submitted today. I will need to check to see when the contest was started.

Incidentally, after being a member here since April of 2006, John, I long ago came to the same conclusion about these contests that Cornelius has. I, too, feel the absence of many old friends, from the days when a submission could easily draw a dozen or more comments to now, when a post is lucky to draw four or five. Nevertheless, I will endeavor to join in your effort. There is time.

Also, and certainly not least, kayaking being the favorite outdoor activity for my better-seven-eighths and I, your image of course goes right to our souls.

Stunning scene, I particularly like the angle and the composition, this scene viewed from where you snapped the photo gives us much to appreciate and admire!
