The can clear vegetation in a hurry Greg. They generally show up around here when it is dry. When you step on them it appears they were chewing tobacco. They do make good fish bait.
A very clear shot.

Is this a tribute to the late Dennis Hopper? LOL. Gorgeous close up shot of that purdy little varmint. Crackin' color and clarity.

Ask some people in Africa, and they will tell you that they are edible not only to fish, lol.
Agree with Jen about the disaster they could cause.
Anyhow a perfect and very detailed image Greg.
Regards, Cornelius.

Greg - Outstanding DOF and clarity - the details of the grasshopper are amazing. Three inches long - it can devour entire plants on its own, but they usually move in packs. Thad

Nice close up of this locust. It is often times refered to as the Devils Horse. A fitting name considering the damage these insects can do. Well done.

Up here in the Dakotas they've been known to eat wooden rake handles, siding, and fence posts. This would make a great page in an entymology handbook or encyclopedia.
