Chris, I see that its proboscis is coiled, indicating that this beautiful macro was taken just before landing or before take-off. I join me in Jeff's comments about the colors and details.

For a 2010 capture, Chris, this is incredibly crystalline sharp; the lines of scales in the wing colors is entirely evident. Now this particular monarch is a male, the white spots are scent glands that help males attract female mates, who have thicker wing veins than males. An immediate S&F from me.
