My wife found this precious little thing in the tub wanting to shower with her...can you believe she turned him down? 8~O I believe it's a Brown Recluse (poisonous), but I can't see the eyes to be for sure. Check out the fiddle on his back though...he can play a mean tune!!

Beautiful picture of a very ugly spider! I think you're right on the identification. This is such a detailed shot it could go into a spider identification book.

Keep it away from me!! I am amazed that you got this shot. My screams would have made him scramble so fast you would never have found him again! I like the way you presented this. Did you remove the background from the original shot?

I could barely look at this long enough to leave a decent comment Randy! YUCKY!!!! I hate spiders and brown recluse are nasy critters that hurt you....really bad. You would have heard me at your house if your eight-legged friend was in MY bathtub. The screams would have brought 911 to the door. My kids always teased me that if I called them when I saw a spider & wanted them to dispose of it (Mom was too chicken :), that I would use my "spider voice"...I take that to mean my voice had an edge of hysteria to it. Honestly, I would call whatever child was home and they would respond "where is the spider Mom?"........so, the fact that I am still sitting at my desk and not under the covers somewhere is growth for me :=).......by the way, excellent capture here.....good job!

Wow: I'd be spooked to have this particular spider, even being a lover of spiders and scary things. One bite can erode/decay tissue in you and make the area rot off....and worse. Amazing. Excellent photo. Better check and fumigate for more....

Time to call pest control, Randy. Those spiders can make a Black Widow look like Mother Goose. I have never seen one that far out in the open. As the name implies they are recluses. Great shot, but I hope you terminated his existance after you took it. And before I get nasty comments from anybody, I have carried live spiders out of my house in the palm of my hands. I don't tolerate the poisonous kind.

Thats spiders bite is extremely dangerous, it's not like a mosquito or bee sting, the poison this spyder has causes necrosys in the adjacent flesh, creating a much larger & harder to heal wound. be careful.

@Keifer there have been unconfirmed reports of bites as far as Alaska so don't be so sure!
A bite, untreated can turn into a large sore/open wound resembling frostbite gone wrong. Thankfuly these spiders are shy and don't bit unless they need to. I have heard a stun gun will break apart the venom, and one doctor uses it for treatment of the bite.

Great capture, I thought it was a Sun Spider in the thumb.
